Bad Waldliesborn combines an easy cycling route through flat terrain with a large spa park and a local history shaped by brine. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Bad Waldliesborn, you can plan your stay around your own interests: cycling, the park or local history.

Cycling Route and Spa Park

The “Around Bad Waldliesborn” route is 25 kilometres long and passes through varied natural scenery. The 20-hectare spa park offers a different setting for exploration: enjoy walks beneath old and exotic trees, sculptures, several playgrounds, mini golf, summer concerts and other events. Visitors can also explore the park on the “Walibo” Express.

Those particularly interested in trees can follow a tree discovery trail in the spa park, with 15 stops featuring native and exotic tree species. Guided tours focusing on the park’s botanical diversity are also offered regularly. Another special feature is the mist trail: nozzles in tall metal pillars spray a fine water mist beneath the canopy, offering walkers a refreshing cool-down.

The L3 Kurbadweg connects Lippstadt’s historic centre with Bad Waldliesborn. In Bad Waldliesborn, it reaches the town centre and then continues into the spa park. This brings together two different perspectives: the link to Lippstadt’s historic centre and the paths through the spa park.

Brine History and Historic Traces

St Joseph’s Church in Bad Waldliesborn was consecrated on 30 April 1930 by Bishop Dr Johannes Poggenburg. The church houses a Renaissance pulpit carved from wood in 1557, originally from Liesborn Abbey. The consecration date and the older pulpit point to different periods in the local and church histories.

Brine Spring I also has a clearly dated history: it was discovered in 1900 at a depth of 912 metres during drilling for coal. The Brine Spring 1 pump house marks the site of the discovery. It is also important for planning your trip to know that, following the closure of the Walibo thermal baths, the brine is currently unavailable for treatments. If this is important to you, check the latest information before travelling.

The former railway station in Bad Waldliesborn was part of the “Rheda-Wiedenbrück–Lippstadt” railway line. Old photographs and documents in the former station recall the eventful history of the brine springs. Together with the church and pump house, these historic traces complement the nature and park attractions with insights into the town’s development.

Guided Tours and Annual Events

The “Sculpture Tour in Bad Waldliesborn” introduces the bronze figures in the spa park, created by Sendenhorst artist Bernhard Kleinhans. Confirm availability before your trip. Another way to learn about the history of the spa town and its park is to join a town tour: it lasts around 90 minutes, is for groups of up to 25 people and costs 58 euros. We recommend confirming availability in advance for this tour as well.

The annual May Festival is an opportunity to discover arts and crafts, enjoy live music and sample a varied range of food and drink. The exact dates vary from year to year, so check the dates for your planned travel period.
