Adendorf reveals itself through a range of themes: pottery, castle history and a cultural programme. The Adendorf Pottery Trail focuses on the craft; the castle complex and a gallery in St. Margaret’s Church offer historical points of interest. Drehwerk 17|19 brings the stage and events into the picture. When looking for a holiday apartment in Adendorf, you can consider which of these interests you want to shape your trip most.
Pottery Trail and Craftsmanship
The Adendorf Pottery Trail is a circular walking route. You can choose your own starting point, endpoint and direction, so you can follow the trail at your own pace. Along the trail, a viewing platform offers an impressive view into the “Grube Erhard”.
Those who would like to learn more about pottery can find courses for families, couples and individuals at Töpferei Thomas Hansen. The Rheinisches Töpferzentrum Adendorf also offers pottery events. The pottery workshop also has a small museum on the development of pottery. If you plan to visit the museum, check visitor information in advance.
Castle Complex and History
Adendorf Castle is a historic castle complex. Its layout dates back to the first construction in 1337; the two-storey building of the main castle was expanded between 1655 and 1670.
Another historical detail can be found in St. Margaret’s Church in Adendorf: a gallery on the right-hand side of the choir is still preserved today; it was once reserved for the lords of Adendorf Castle when they attended services. Personal guided tours of Adendorf Castle, led by the lord of the castle, are available for groups of ten or more. A tour lasts about 1.5 hours and costs 10 euros per person; arrange the date and visit in advance.
Concerts are held in the courtyard in summer. The annual Landpartie is also held there, from Ascension Day through the following Sunday. Since the exact calendar dates shift with the public holiday, check the dates for your travel year in advance.
A Stage in Former Pottery Workshop Rooms
Drehwerk 17|19 is located in converted rooms of the former Söndgen pottery workshop. Its performance space has 70 seats and presents comedy, cabaret, concerts, readings and magic shows. The programme brings together different types of stage performance in one place; the former Söndgen pottery workshop also points to another chapter in Adendorf’s pottery history. In Adendorf, both the history of craftsmanship and cultural events today are in view.

The wider travel destination of Wachtberg offers other distinct topics. Wachtberg Cultural Weeks take place every summer, last 17 days and feature music, literature, painting and theatre. Dates and programmes change each year.
Between Berkum and Kürrighoven, directly on the Apple Route, there is an educational orchard trail offering information about fruit growing in the Drachenfelser Ländchen. Broicher Mill in the Wachtberg district of Villip is a historic watermill that is still in commercial operation. It was first mentioned in a document in 886 and continues to mill flour; check the operator’s information before visiting.
