Swisttal offers a range of reasons to visit: the Rose Festival and St. Katharina Church in Buschhoven, historical links to the Roman aqueduct and the Rhineland Apple Route. There are also golf facilities and a viewpoint at the DĂĽnstekoven wetland. When choosing a hotel, you can first decide whether church life, architectural history, a route or a sporting activity should be the focus of your trip.

Church Life and Cultural Heritage

The Rose Festival remains a highlight of Buschhoven’s annual church calendar. The Catholic parish maintains it as an annual tradition. At the same time, the number of pilgrims has steadily declined over the years. The recurring celebration and the declining number of pilgrims describe two different aspects of the local church year.

St. Katharina Church in Buschhoven houses a devotional image in the form of a Romanesque statue of the Virgin Mary. The annual festival and the statue offer two distinct points of interest: a recurring event and a permanent religious artwork.

History Along the Route

The Historic Swist Crossing at LĂĽtzermiel is an experience stop on the Rhineland Apple Route. It explores the transport of goods in the past and today. You can reach the site by car via the B 56 or by bicycle via the Rhineland Apple Route. This makes it possible to include the stop thematically in a ride along the Apple Route, while the B 56 also provides access by car.

The former Schillingskapellen Monastery was built in the 12th century almost entirely from demolition material from the Roman aqueduct. The origin of the materials adds another historical dimension to the building. Gut Capellen – Schillingskapellen can only be viewed from the outside, so plan your visit as an exterior viewing.

Golf, Nature and a Specific Route Distance

Golfclub Schloss Miel has an 18-hole course on a 90-hectare site. Facilities include a driving range, introductory courses, and private and group lessons, including video swing analysis. In addition to the course itself, various forms of practice and instruction are available.

The viewpoint at the DĂĽnstekoven wetland can be visited at any time. It is advisable to check official notices before setting out. A NABU nature conservation station is located in the former operating buildings of the gravel pit at the wetland.

The Swisttal Loop of the Rhineland Apple Route is 21.34 kilometers long. This specific distance provides a local point of reference when choosing a route for your trip.

The Apple Route in the Rhein-Sieg District

The wider travel destination of the Rhein-Sieg District provides a broader view of the route: the 124-kilometer Rhineland Apple Route runs through Alfter, Bornheim, Swisttal, Rheinbach, Meckenheim and Wachtberg, and can also be explored via six loop trails. The Swisttal Loop and the route through several municipalities thus represent different distances. This allows you to distinguish the local loop from the longer route and decide whether to focus your plans on Swisttal or include other places.
