For a stay in Buir, village-style architecture, its own S-Bahn stop and links to regional cycle routes come together. The local area and routes offer specific points of reference.

Village Character and Historic Buildings

Buir is distinguished by its village character. The streets are lined mainly with one- and two-storey village houses; a few buildings from the Gründerzeit period have been preserved in the western part of the district. St. Michael’s Church is located at Kirchenstraße 36, 50170 Kerpen-Buir and shapes the townscape. A half-timbered house on Kirchenstraße in Buir is now a listed building.

Gut Anstelburg is also part of the local area: on the site of a medieval knight’s estate in Kerpen-Buir, it operates a training centre for horses specialising in dressage.

Cycling Experience Route and Regional Tours

In the wider area around Buir, the signposted Kerpen Cycling Experience Route runs as a circular route of around 50 kilometres through almost all of Kerpen’s districts. It links historic sites, buildings, places of interest and leisure facilities, and passes through landscapes between the Erftaue and Villerücken and between the Berrenrather and Zülpicher Börde. You can also explore the route in sections.

This gives you an alternative to the full circular route when planning: you can select individual sections. The City of Kerpen’s cycling map lists Buir station as point 39 on the Kerpen Cycling Experience Route.

Another cycling tradition connected with Buir is the tour organised by the Kerpen Friends of Local History for Open Monument Day. A 2025 report describes it as a traditional event that had been held for more than 20 years. The places included are Buir, Manheim, Horrem, Sindorf, Türnich, Blatzheim, Mödrath and Kerpen.

Getting There and a Date for Your Calendar

Buir has its own S-Bahn stop and is also served by a bus route. In the wider Kerpen destination, Kerpen has Deutsche Bahn stations in the districts of Horrem, Sindorf and Buir. From there, DĂĽren, Aachen and Cologne are reachable every ten minutes; check the service frequency before travelling.

The events calendar for Buir lists the start of the carnival season and the Nubbelerwecken ceremony organised by KG Löstige Buirer 1974 e.V. and KG Los Buironeros 2022 e.V. for 14 November 2026. If this date is important for your trip, check the event details in advance.

Kerpen as the Wider Destination

Green spaces and other cycle routes can also be explored across the wider Kerpen destination. The Stadtwald Horrem nature reserve in Kerpen has been protected since 1998 and covers 17.88 hectares. Kerpener Parrig and Kerpener Broich are important green spaces for local recreation in Kerpen. Well-developed cycle paths run along the Erft and Neffelbach streams and through natural floodplain forests.
