The Henne flows through Oberhenneborn and empties into nearby Hennesee. For planning your visit, there are shorter walking paths, viewpoints and traces of local history to choose from. The paths vary in length and theme; the bus route and hiking taxi are also relevant when planning your journey.

Walking Paths and Marked Routes

Several shorter walking paths start from the village centre. The Habichtsweg is about 3 km long and offers a view of Oberhenneborn. The easy Kuhweg is about 4 km long and offers a lovely view of the village. The Eulenweg, about 5.7 km long, runs along the Henne. This gives you three routes of different lengths to choose from: at about 3 km, the Habichtsweg is the shortest, while the Eulenweg is the longest at about 5.7 km; the Kuhweg is rated easy.

After 400 metres, the Habichtsweg reaches the Kreuzkapelle. Several information boards along the bee nature trail provide information about the lives and work of bees. The Golddorf Route starts at the Peace Oak in Oberhenneborn and is marked along its entire length with a gold G on a red background. It leads to a rock known as the “Henneborner Loreley”.

The “Auf dem Kreuz” viewpoint offers a view of Oberhenneborn and includes a small wayside shrine. It can be reached on foot from the village car parks, including via the photo route. You can therefore choose between different destinations: a viewpoint overlooking the village, a rock with its own name, or a path with information about bees.

Chapels and Village History

Oberhenneborn has a Catholic church dedicated to St Agatha. The present-day Kreuzkapelle on the nearby mountain saddle was built in 1996 through the efforts of the village community. The two sites have different points of focus: the church is dedicated to the saint, while the Kreuzkapelle’s history also includes its construction by the village community.

The “Henneborner Eule” emblem was once stamped onto iron goods made by local blacksmiths. It recalls the village’s former blacksmithing tradition. The old bakehouse is also a local point of interest: it is stop 2 on the Oberhenneborn photo route.

Schmallenberg as the Wider Destination

The wider destination of Schmallenberg offers other attractions that should not be attributed to Oberhenneborn. Schmallenberg’s old town has a uniform Neoclassical architectural character and many restored half-timbered houses. Schmallenberg is also home to a family adventure trail about three kilometres long, with 13 stops covering forests, animals, wood and birds. Its theme differs from that of the bee nature trail in Oberhenneborn: there, the information boards cover the lives and work of bees, while here the content is spread across several subject areas. The forestry workers’ museum in Schmallenberg-Latrop displays historical tools, images of former forest and village life, historical forestry office records, and information about the development of the chainsaw.

Plan Your Journey

Bus route 465 serves Oberhenneborn. If you would like to join the Golddorf Route, you can use the “Todesbruch” stop. Check the current timetable before travelling.

The “Sauerland Höhenflug” hiking taxi picks up holidaymakers locally in Oberhenneborn. Exact departure times are provided when you register; check the reservation details before your trip. The bus and hiking taxi thus offer two practical ways to factor your journey into your plans.
