Two of the four bells in the tower of St. Vincentius date from 1486; at the same time, several signposted cycling tours start right in Lenne. Local history and route planning go hand in hand here. Three questions can help guide your decision: Would you like to learn about the Romanesque church, start a cycling tour right in the village, or plan your stay around a local festival?

St. Vincentius and its architectural history

St. Vincentius is a small, single-nave Romanesque church dedicated to the martyr Vincentius. Its original structure was first mentioned in a document in 1221 as “capella in Lene.” Two of the four bells in the tower date from 1486. The Romanesque church paintings were uncovered in 1962 and are very well preserved. The dates refer to different details: the first documentary mention of the original structure, two bells, and the uncovering of the paintings. The listed half-timbered houses are also part of Lenne and add another architectural highlight.

Cycling tours and routes in the Uentroptal Valley

Several signposted cycling tours start directly from Lenne and lead through the Uentroptal and Lennetal valleys. The SauerlandRadring also runs right through Lenne. The Golddorf-Route Lenne is a circular tour just over eight and a half kilometres long through the Uentroptal Valley. The routes described here therefore differ in their focus: the signposted cycling tours start right in the village and pass through two valleys, while the circular format and approximate distance are the key points for the Golddorf-Route. Check the current route conditions before setting out on a specific ride.

Getting there by bus

Bus route SB9 runs through Lenne from Schmallenberg to Lennestadt-Altenhundem. The “Schulte” stop is recommended for the Golddorf-Route. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable and connection again before your trip.

Take a break at the footbath or in the Bible Garden

The footbath in the Uentroptal Valley is about 1 km from the village. It offers people of all ages the chance to walk in the water with the stork-step technique, as well as a place to relax and unwind. In the Bible Garden behind the parish hall, benches beneath shady trees invite you to linger. The two places offer different experiences: the footbath is all about walking in the water, while the garden is a place to pause and relax.

Local festivals throughout the year

The Einigkeit Lenne theatre association puts on performances every year at the end of January for the patronal festival of the St. Vincentius Lenne parish. The exact performance dates vary from year to year. The Schützenfest (marksmen’s festival) takes place in Lenne every May; its dates and programme also vary. For your travel plans, the two traditions mark different times of year: theatre for the patronal festival at the end of January and the Schützenfest in May. If you are travelling specifically for an event, check the dates and programme for the relevant year in advance.
