Rambin brings together historic buildings, insights into agriculture and the landscape along the Kubitzer Bodden. When planning your visit, you can give these different themes separate emphasis: churches and chapels shape the cultural perspective, the local history museum showcases agricultural history, and walks or bike rides lead into the Bodden landscape. Local food and the route from the direction of Stralsund may also play a role in planning your day.

Churches, Chapels and Monastery Art

St. John’s Church in Rambin was first mentioned in a document in 1300 and is one of the oldest churches on the island of Rügen. Its furnishings include a 13th-century baptismal font, the church’s oldest furnishing. There is also a late-medieval rood cross and a late-medieval carved figure of Mary with the Child. The different periods in which these objects were created give the church’s furnishings a distinctive historical range.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross in Bessin is also a striking building: it is an octagonal Gothic brick structure. At St. Jürgen Rambin Monastery, architecture is combined with an art offering today. The monastery chapel houses a gallery with changing exhibitions. The two-storey brick building at the monastery is described as Classicism in its purest form. Visitors interested in art and architectural history will find different points of interest here; the exhibitions change.

Local History Museum and Rambin Conversations

The Rambin Local History Museum does not have regular opening hours and opens for association events. You can arrange guided tours or visits individually with the museum director or the board. It is therefore best to plan your visit after checking in advance.

The museum preserves an almost complete collection of agricultural tools and machinery. It was assembled at the former farm of farmer Friedrich Herud in Götemitz. The collection illustrates German agriculture in the first half of the 19th century and gives a visit to the museum a clear historical focus.

From April to September, the “Rambin Conversations by the Bread Oven” take place at 5 p.m. on the last Friday of each month. Fresh bread is baked, and there are also talks and group discussions. Check the annual calendar before your trip so you can confirm the date for your travel year.

Regional Cuisine and the Bodden Landscape

The Rügen Farmers’ Market Alte Pommernkate in Rambin offers breakfast, regional lunch dishes, home-baked cakes, a farm grill and a fish stand. The selection ranges from breakfast and lunch to cakes and food from the grill or fish stand. It adds a culinary option in Rambin to the area’s cultural attractions.

The Bodden landscape near Rambin can be explored on walks and bike rides, during which you may spot wild geese and cranes. Cycling routes from Rambin lead to Lake Karow. From there, you can enjoy an impressive view of the Kubitzer Bodden and the salt meadows. Fishing is also possible on the Kubitzer Bodden, which borders Rambin. There are different ways to experience the landscape: on foot, by bike or while fishing.

Getting There and a Base for Exploring

From Stralsund, you can reach Rambin via the “Altefähr/Rambin” exit on the B96n and then take the old federal road through Rambin. The town is a suitable base for excursions around the island of Rügen or to the mainland. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between a stay focused on Rambin’s buildings, museum and landscape and further excursions, without having to fit every theme into the same day.
