The harbor, the location on the Bodden and the preserved captains’ houses give Breege a maritime character. The municipality also has other attractions, including the beach on the Schaabe and the promenade in Juliusruh. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore consider whether seafaring, time at the beach or walks are likely to be the focus of your stay. Looking at the specific features can help you sort the local offerings according to your own travel interests.

Harbor, Bodden and seafaring

Breege is situated on the Breeger Bodden, which forms part of the Großer Jasmunder Bodden. The harbor has 50 guest berths with electricity and water hookups. The so-called captains’ houses preserved in Breege bear witness to the local seafaring tradition. The harbor and the houses show different sides of the town’s maritime character: on the one hand, the practical facilities for visiting boaters; on the other, an architectural heritage linked to seafaring. Those interested in the history and present-day practice of seafaring will find these themes reflected in different ways around the town.

Breege ferry and excursion trips offer boat tours to popular destinations along the coast of Rügen, as well as deep-sea fishing in the Baltic Sea. Excursions to the Störtebeker Festival in Ralswiek and to the island of Hiddensee are also offered from Breege harbor. Check dates and sailing times in advance if you want to include a trip as a fixed part of your travel plans.

Coast and walks in the municipality

Off Breege, in the Bodden of the same name, lie the so-called Saalsteine, large erratic boulders in the Bodden waters. They add a natural focal point to the area around the town, complementing the themes of the harbor and seafaring with striking natural forms in the water.

Within the municipality, the nearly eleven-kilometer-long, fine-sand, unguarded beach on the Schaabe stretches from Breege-Juliusruh to Glowe. It is mainly visited by people who enjoy nude bathing. The stated length therefore refers to the larger stretch, not Breege alone. If you are planning time at the beach, you should take its unguarded nature and predominantly FKK use into account.

The promenade in Juliusruh extends throughout the entire village and was completed in 2013. It invites visitors to take a walk year-round; from the promenade, there are views across the Tromper Wiek. Walks along the promenade thus complement the long stretch of coast with another way to spend time in the municipality.

Park and local history in Juliusruh

Juliusruh Park has some exotic plants and many lime trees; a monument to the town’s founder is also enclosed by beech hedges. The combination of plant life and monument brings park design and local history together in a compact space. Juliusruh thus complements Breege’s maritime character with a cultural and horticultural aspect within the municipality.
