Meiersberg combines cycling tours to two destinations with a local history brought to life by specific buildings. The village is considered a starting point for tours into the Ueckermünde Heath and the Brohmer Hills; at the same time, the Colonist House and the fieldstone church tell of different building periods. Situated by the small River Zarow and surrounded by forest, Meiersberg also has two distinct landscape features. Cycling, village history and local culture are therefore at the heart of a stay here.

Cycling to Two Destinations

Meiersberg is considered a starting point for cycling tours into the Ueckermünde Heath and the Brohmer Hills. This gives cyclists a clear question to consider at the start of their planning: which of the two destinations should be the main focus? The village’s history and cultural programme offer another way to experience a stay, so cycling is not the only way to explore Meiersberg.

Meiersberg’s Architectural History

The community’s origins date back to 1748, when colonists settled in Meiersberg. A colonist house dating from the mid-18th century stands at Dorfstraße 19. The single-storey building originally had exposed half-timbering, a thatched roof with its ridge parallel to the street, and is a standard design from the 18th century. This half-timbered building is one of the few surviving structures from the founding period of Meiersberg.

The fieldstone church in Meiersberg offers a different architectural accent. It was built in 1827 from fieldstone, with a boarded roof tower. Comparing the two buildings makes their different forms clear: fieldstone and a roof tower on the one hand, and a single-storey half-timbered building with a thatched roof running parallel to the street on the other. The village’s history is thus represented not by a single year of construction, but by different building styles and periods.

Cultural Programme and Landscape

Concerts are occasionally held at Lohse & Zincke, at Dorfstraße 151. The venue also hosts discussions on current topics and readings, as well as outdoor film screenings with picnics and indoor screenings. Since the programme varies by date, check the latest announcements before your trip.

Meiersberg lies on the small River Zarow and is surrounded by forest. These landscape features add another perspective on the village to its architectural history and cultural programme.

Vorpommern-Greifswald in a Wider Context

The wider destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald offers a county-wide perspective of its own. The county’s three nature parks cover almost 40 percent of its area. The Ueckermünde Heath is a place for hiking, cycling and horse riding. At the regional level, cycling routes for exploring the county also include the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route, part of the EuroVelo Route EV10, and the Stettiner Haff Circular Route. The Route of North German Romanticism is another regional cycle route for exploring Vorpommern-Greifswald.

Cultural attractions in Vorpommern-Greifswald include the Juliett U-461, a museum ship in Peenemünde harbour that visitors can explore on a tour. Check the latest access arrangements in advance. The Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald displays the Croy Tapestry from 1554, a unique cultural and historical artefact from the Reformation period. In Anklam, the Otto Lilienthal Museum is a biographical technical museum dedicated to aviation pioneer, mechanical engineer and humanist Otto Lilienthal in his home town.

Another regional option combines culture and food: a guided tour of Greifswald’s historic old town takes visitors to four local restaurants serving sweet and savoury treats. Alongside the buildings and cultural programme in Meiersberg, there are other themes to explore across the wider destination.
