The manor house at Niekrenzer DorfstraĂźe 40 provides a specific cultural and historical point of interest for planning a trip to Niekrenz. It is a two-storey rendered building with an entrance loggia supported by columns, a tower extension and a terrace facing the park. Historic details have been preserved inside, including stucco ceilings, doors and wood panelling; there is also a garden room lined with marble.

The Rostock District heritage list dated 10 February 2021 includes the manor house and park at Niekrenzer DorfstraĂźe 40. It also lists a fieldstone stable at number 40a and another at number 36. The second stable has been converted for residential use.

Plan your visit and access

The manor house is privately owned and is being renovated. The park is overgrown and contains a dilapidated burial site belonging to the Stever family. Do not assume that visitors can access the site. As ownership and renovation status may change, check locally before visiting whether access is possible and to what extent. Do not assume that either the interior of the house or the park is freely accessible.

More cultural sites in the wider Sanitz destination

The wider Sanitz destination offers further cultural attractions. Sanitz village church was built in the 13th century and is a substantial fieldstone building with a half-timbered tower. Its altar features paintings by Rudolph Suhrlandt from around 1800. The Old Smithy in Sanitz was first mentioned in a document in 1798 and is a late-Baroque oak half-timbered building. The courtyard of the Old Smithy is a listed monument; a direct visit is not possible because the building is on private property.

The manor house at Schloss GroĂź LĂĽsewitz was built from 1896 to 1898 in the Neo-Renaissance style. A landscaped park adjoins the house; after 1970, it was extended to include an equestrian competition venue. The construction of the manor house and the later extension of the park mark different historical periods.

Circular route and hiking trail in Sanitz

Two different descriptions of routes in Sanitz can be distinguished. The 36-kilometre circular route starts at Sanitz railway station, passes through Wendfeld, Reppelin, Wendorf, Neu-Wendorf, Stormsdorf, Zarnewanz, Tessin and Horst, and returns to Sanitz. The Kleine Waldrunde, by contrast, is a hiking trail that leads north from the old village in Sanitz through a wooded area along sandy tracks. While the circular route specifies its length and several place names, the Waldrunde mainly describes the direction, wooded area and terrain.
