A stay in Lütten Klein can be linked to two specific themes: the district’s architectural history and walking routes that pass through allotment gardens to destinations in Lichtenhagen or Warnemünde.

Large-panel construction and Müther’s multipurpose hall

Lütten Klein was the first part of Rostock to be built using industrial large-panel construction. Its landmarks include four highly visible, 19-storey buildings known as windmill high-rises, on Rigaer Straße and Ahlbecker Straße. They date from 1972/75. Their construction method, height and distinctive name make them specific examples of the district’s architectural history.

The multipurpose hall at Warnowallee 25 is classified as a listed building. Lütten Klein’s central multipurpose hall was designed by Ulrich Müther and built using shell construction. The high-rises stand out for their number, height and role as landmarks; the hall for its design and construction method. Together, they illustrate two different architectural features of the district.

Another technical detail concerns a shotcrete machine: in 1968, Ulrich Müther received a machine made by the West German company Torkret. It was suitable for the dry-mix shotcrete process and was first used during construction work on the multipurpose hall in Rostock-Lütten Klein. This technical connection complements the information on shell construction with the history of a specific piece of equipment.

Walking routes and Fischerdorf Park

Walking routes from Lütten Klein pass through allotment gardens to the neighboring village of Lichtenhagen or via the Lichtenhagen district to Warnemünde. The routes therefore lead in different directions: one to the village, the other farther on to Warnemünde. If you’re planning a specific walk, choose a route based on your intended destination and check current trail conditions before setting out.

Nearby, Fischerdorf Park borders Lütten Klein to the south. The park includes a toboggan hill and a pond. Alongside routes to destinations in Lichtenhagen or Warnemünde, it offers a separate green space with two clearly named features.

Flea markets and maritime history nearby

The HanseSchatz reuse center holds flea markets several times a year in the sales hall at the Lütten Klein recycling center, Koppelweg 1, 18107 Rostock. Individual flea market dates may change. Check in advance whether a market is taking place during your stay.

Nearby, the Rostock Shipbuilding and Maritime Museum traces the development of shipbuilding and seafaring in the region aboard the almost completely preserved 10,000-ton ocean-going freighter MS DRESDEN. There is also a Historic Boatyard featuring traditional craftsmanship and wooden shipbuilding. The museum is a short walk from the Lütten-Klein stop. The ship and boatyard offer different points of interest: the development of seafaring aboard the freighter, and traditional craftsmanship and wooden shipbuilding at the yard.
