Hütter Wohld and the pond complex near Hütten give Bartenshagen-Parkentin a distinctive natural character, complemented by village history and annual equestrian tournaments. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Bartenshagen-Parkentin, it helps to first choose the focus of your trip: nature, historic architecture or an event date.

Forest, Ponds and Protected Landscape

Hütter Wohld is a large forest area that rises to 85 metres above sea level. The chain of ponds in Hütter Wohld and the adjoining woodland areas were designated the Hütter Klosterteiche Nature Reserve by an order dated 1 November 2005. Near Hütten, 14 interconnected bodies of water lie among old beech and oak trees. Forest, water and the landscape’s protected status are therefore among the municipality’s defining natural features.

The lake near Hütten lies between Parkentin and Hütten, was formed from a peat-cutting site and, at just under five hectares, is the largest lake in the municipality. About 190 hectares of the municipal area lie within the Kühlung Landscape Conservation Area. The Hütter Klosterteiche Nature Reserve comprises the chain of ponds in Hütter Wohld and the adjoining woodland areas.

Village Church, Hall Houses and Craftsmanship

Parkentin Village Church is a three-aisled Gothic brick church built after 1250. It features delicate wall and vault paintings dating from 1400. The description “three-aisled” refers to the division of the church interior into three aisles; brick and Gothic identify further architectural features. The construction period and paintings mark different points in the building’s history and the history of its furnishings.

Bartenshagen has an unusually large number of well-preserved Low German hall houses and farmsteads. Thus, alongside the individual church building, a larger group of historic rural buildings is another local architectural feature. Those interested in architectural history can distinguish between these two perspectives: the three-aisled village church in Parkentin and the hall houses and farmsteads in Bartenshagen.

Another historic point of interest is in Hütten: a glassworks was mentioned in a document there in 1268, where green forest glass was produced. This reference connects a specific place with a dated craft and adds the history of glassmaking to the architectural themes.

Tournaments and Rail Connections

Equestrian, show-jumping, eventing and driving tournaments are held annually in the municipality of Bartenshagen-Parkentin. If a tournament is the reason for your trip, check whether one falls during your stay before making plans; individual dates may vary.

The Rostock–Wismar railway line crosses the municipality in the district of Parkentin. For specific rail travel planning, check the connections for your travel dates. This will help you coordinate your journey with your planned stay or a tournament date.
