Rosenow combines a Neo-Gothic village church with a burial chapel belonging to the von Blücher family and the sculpture “Hanna” in the old cemetery. The geographical setting is also important when planning your trip: other architectural and artistic works are found in other villages in the municipality, while the Mecklenburg Lake District offers a distinct regional setting for nature and water experiences.

Church, Burial Chapel and Sculpture

Rosenow village church was built in the mid-19th century in the Neo-Gothic style. Its foundations and basic walls are made of fieldstones from the former churchyard wall. The church is also a venue for the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern; the programme may vary. If a performance is a key reason for your trip, check the specific event dates before planning your stay. The Neo-Gothic burial chapel of the von Blücher family is located just outside the churchyard to the west. The sculpture “Hanna” by Thomas Jastram stands in the old cemetery. In Rosenow, architectural history, burial culture and sculpture thus take centre stage as distinct themes. If you are planning an interior visit or attending an event, check access arrangements or the date in advance.

Cultural Heritage in Other Villages in the Municipality

Beyond Rosenow itself, the municipality’s architectural and cultural heritage continues in other villages. In Schwandt, a large Neoclassical mausoleum belonging to the von Schlieffen family stands west of the village church. Its architectural features include a western apse and lunette windows dating from the 19th century. Above the entrance is an allegorical fresco depicting the death scene of Juliane von Schlieffen, who died in 1832. Carl Eggers painted it in 1835. The Wendenburg family burial site is in the cemetery of the Tarnow chapel.

In Luplow, another village in the municipality, stands the manor house built around 1760. The single-storey building has nine bays, a two-storey central avant-corps and a fully developed mansard roof. The Rococo stucco ceilings feature a fox, the heraldic animal of F. J. Christian von Voss, and a bear, the heraldic animal of his wife Eva Juliane von Behr. The manor house is privately owned, so do not assume that you can visit the interior; check in advance.

Mecklenburg Lake District: Nature and Water

The wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District adds a broader range of natural and waterside landscapes to the municipality’s cultural sites. Müritz National Park is part of the Mecklenburg Lake District and is characterised by forests, marshes, lakes and wide meadows. The Müritz National Park Hiking Trail explores the park’s landscapes and distinctive features over nine stages: it runs along lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours in the national park, including guided walks in the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest of Serrahn and tours from the water. The hiking trail and guided tours offer different ways to explore the national park’s landscape.

The Damerower Werder bison reserve offers another regional nature experience. It is located on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin and in Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Visitors can observe bison there. The forest adventure trail includes climbing opportunities, an ant house, an exhibition with tactile and visual displays, and a dendrophone. The offerings in the wider travel destination are therefore clearly distinct from Rosenow’s cultural sites: the focus here is on landscapes, guided nature tours and wildlife observation.
