Meesiger lies directly on the shore of Lake Kummerow. Several distinct themes come together here when choosing a destination: the history of the fortified church, cycling and hiking options, water sports and facilities at the Gravelotte campsite. When planning, it helps to distinguish between being right on the shore and taking trips in the nearby or wider area. This lets you focus on local history, activities by the lake or a longer excursion, rather than treating everything as a single itinerary.

Shoreline landscape and fortified church

Meesiger Church was built as a fortified church by Meesiger farmers after the Thirty Years’ War. Alongside its lakeside setting, the village therefore has a clear historical landmark: the building’s design, period and local builders are all connected. The section of the Ice Age Route from Malchin to Meesiger offers a different perspective on the landscape. Along this stretch, there are good views of the terminal moraine on the western shore of Lake Kummerow. Those interested in landforms can find a direct connection between the route and the terminal moraine on the lakeshore. Lake Kummerow is also one of the most fish-rich bodies of water.

Cycling, hiking and other excursions

Meesiger-Gravelotte has a well-developed network of cycle paths, including signposted cycling routes. Hiking is possible along the Lake Kummerow shoreline and the Seeberge hills. The lake offers surfers favorable wind conditions and plenty of space for their sport. You can therefore choose a focus that suits your interests: cycling on the signposted routes, hiking along the Seeberge or water sports on the lake. These different perspectives can help you organize activities for your stay by theme.

Nearby, the nature trail runs between Gravelotte and Verchen. It is about 3.5 km long and provides information about local vegetation and wildlife. Here, the focus is on learning about nature. Further afield in the region, you can take a longer route: Lake Kummerow can be circumnavigated along a route of about 45 km. At Aalbude near Verchen, you can take the ferry across the Peene. The distances represent two different scales: about 3.5 km for the nature trail and around 45 km for the route around the lake. The ferry is one way to cross the Peene.

Gravelotte: campsite, beach and harbor

The Gravelotte campsite has 120 pitches across four hectares of unpartitioned grounds. These details give you a concrete idea of the number of pitches, the site’s area and its layout. The site on Lake Kummerow has a natural beach with a large sunbathing lawn. There is also a separate designated bathing beach for dogs. If you are considering beach facilities when choosing a campsite, you can take these two areas into account as distinct options.

At Gravelotte’s bathing beach, Zuckerfee serves soft-serve ice cream, crêpes, cotton candy and coffee. As availability may change, it is worth checking the current offerings before your visit. Boats calling at the Gravelotte waterway rest area are subject to a specific rule: they must report to the harbor master immediately after mooring. This also applies to short-stay visitors who plan to moor for just one hour. If you moor there by boat, plan to report in as soon as you have tied up; the short stay does not change this requirement.
