Gneven is a destination with several distinct points of interest: the Warnow, the nature park, golf and village history. The Warnow leaves the municipality of Gneven near Vorbeck; the village church and WINSTONgolf are also located there. Gneven is one of the member municipalities of the Sternberger Seenland Nature Park. This offers different options to consider when planning your trip: nature park tours, water-based excursions, golf or the history of a church building.

Nature Park and the Warnow

Hiking, children’s and cycling tours can be booked in the nature park. So you can choose based on what you’re looking for: a walk, a cycling tour or a tour planned for children. Check the specific booking details before your trip.

The Warnow comes from Augustenhof and leaves the municipality of Gneven near Vorbeck. It is becoming increasingly popular with people who enjoy water-based excursions. The river is a different focus from the bookable nature park tours: if you are interested in water-based excursions, you can include the Warnow as a separate point of interest in your travel plans.

Golf in Vorbeck

WINSTONgolf is a superb golf facility in Vorbeck with three first-class, multi-award-winning golf courses. The driving range can also be used free of charge every day; neither membership in a golf club nor a DGV course-permission certificate is required. The courses and the range offer two different golfing options. Check the information on using the range again before you arrive. When entering the destination for WINSTONgolf into your navigation system, use “Gneven,” as some navigation devices frequently fail to find “Vorbeck.”

Village Church and History

North of Vorbeck, the village church sits on a hill in the middle of the cemetery. A shady, atmospheric avenue of lime trees leads to the church from the country road. As well as the building itself, its location is a notable feature of the village’s history.

The oldest part of the village church in Vorbeck is the east gable, which belongs to an early Gothic brick building that was certainly already standing in 1317. The church also has a Gothic triptych, probably created in a Wismar workshop around 1490. These bring together two points of interest in art and architectural history: the early Gothic building and a later artwork, probably created in Wismar.

More culture in the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination

The wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination offers other distinct cultural highlights. Ludwigslust Palace was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and, together with its park and the town, forms an ensemble described as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The palace presents art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The museum in Dömitz Fortress covers the history of the fortress and town, the history of the Elbe, harbour and bridges, Fritz Reuter, as well as special exhibitions and art exhibitions. This offers a different cultural perspective from the village church in Vorbeck.
