Groß Laasch combines a well-maintained village green with magnificent trees, a village church shaped by history, local crafts and extensive woodland. Culture, handicrafts and nature offer different focal points for a stay. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between the network of paths, the church’s architectural and furnishing details, and visits to Tine’s Weaving and Candle Barn by appointment.

Village Green, Rectory and Forest Paths

The well-maintained village green, with its magnificent trees, adds a touch of greenery to the village landscape. The rectory is located not far from the church, surrounded by a spacious park with many old trees. Groß Laasch also has extensive woodland with a far-reaching network of paths. This offers a concrete option for visitors wishing to include walks or hikes in their stay.

Church Architecture and Furnishings

The foundation stone for today’s Groß Laasch church was laid in 1791. Its architectural features include a flat-ended chancel and an octagonal half-timbered roof turret. The flat-ended chancel describes the end of the choir; a roof turret is a structure on the roof, here octagonal and built in half-timbering. These historical details therefore refer to two different architectural elements.

The interior includes a simple wooden pulpit altar and a wrought-iron baptismal stand with a brass bowl dating from the 16th century. The details differ both in material and in their historical context: the brass bowl’s age is given as the 16th century, while the pulpit altar is described by its wood and simple design.

Memorial stones to the victims of war and violence stand in front of the church. The clock in the tower dates from 1792 and is still wound by hand every two days. If you would like to take a closer look at the clock during a visit, check in advance what visiting arrangements are possible.

Crafts at Tine’s Weaving and Candle Barn

Vests, jackets, coats, scarves, belts and curtains are made at Tine’s Weaving and Candle Barn using traditional craftsmanship. There is also a hands-on workshop: with expert guidance, candle makers of all ages can pour candles in just 15 minutes and create a gift or personal souvenir. Unlike the finished textiles, this activity lets visitors take part in making something themselves with guidance.

The barn is located at Ludwigsluster Straße 59, 19288 Groß Laasch. Visits are by appointment; arrange a time before travelling and check the contact details before setting off.

Plan Other Attractions

Other attractions listed in Groß Laasch include the exhibition “The Life of Jesus Christ” and a local history room. If you would like to include either destination in your plans, check current opening hours and access arrangements before visiting.
