Lakes, cycle paths, a nature trail and historic buildings offer several concrete reasons to visit Gallin-Kuppentin. To get your bearings, it is worth looking at the municipality and its districts: the village church is in Kuppentin, the manor-house ensemble is in Zahren, and the nature trail runs around Lake Daschow.

Landscape, cycle paths and bathing spots

The “Alte Elde” nature reserve borders Gallin-Kuppentin to the west. A well-developed network of cycle paths connects the districts of Zahren, Penzlin, Gallin, Kuppentin and Daschow. This offers a concrete starting point for a cycling excursion that takes in several districts. The municipality is also home to a waterway rest area on the Elde-Müritz Waterway, set in the forest and used by many campers. In summer, the municipality’s bathing spots offer playgrounds and sports facilities. Cycling, a waterside rest stop and summer bathing options therefore offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors.

Lakes and a walk around Lake Daschow

Lake Daschow covers 19 hectares and has a shoreline of about 1,300 metres. It can be explored by rowing boat, and boat rentals are also available there. Check rental availability before your trip. A circular hiking trail, which serves as a nature trail, runs around the lake and takes about 60 minutes. The route therefore offers a clear time frame for a walk by the water. By comparison, Lake Zahren is considerably larger at 83 hectares and can also be explored by rowing boat. The two lakes therefore differ in size; boat rental is mentioned for Lake Daschow.

Kuppentin Village Church

Kuppentin Village Church was built in 1235 and is a tourist attraction. Its simple nave is made of fieldstone, and some of its windows are round-arched or pointed-arched. The choir is Gothic and built of brick, and its gable rises above the nave. Buttresses at the southwest and northwest corners have been renovated. The church also has a wooden bell tower dating from the 18th century. The different building elements give the church a multifaceted architectural character: fieldstone, brick and wood are all part of the story, as are the window shapes and the raised choir gable. In addition to church services, the church is used for exhibitions, lectures and musical events during the summer months. This cultural use is seasonal; no specific event date is implied.

The manor-house ensemble in Zahren

The district of Zahren is home to Gut Zahren, an ensemble comprising a manor house, a former stable, a milk house and a former manor kitchen. The manor house dates from the late 18th century. It is accompanied by a listed park and mature trees. The municipality’s historic sites therefore have different points of focus: in Kuppentin, the church building and its cultural use in summer take centre stage, while Gut Zahren is defined by its manor-house ensemble and the associated park. The former functions of individual buildings remain part of the site’s heritage.
