On the outskirts of Bad Bevensen lies Klein Bünstorfer Heide, a destination for walkers, hikers and cyclists. In town, water activities and culture add to the offerings. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether to focus on routes on foot or by bike, activities on the Ilmenau, or cultural and historical impressions.

Heathland, Water and Routes

Cycling and hiking routes run along the Elbe Lateral Canal, offering views of the water and passing ships. In Bad Bevensen, you can go canoeing, pedal boating and stand-up paddling on the Ilmenau. The two water settings offer different perspectives: along the canal, the water and ships accompany a route on foot or by bike; on the Ilmenau, the focus is on activities on the water. You can choose an excursion based on the type of activity you prefer.

Routes by Length and Difficulty

Bad Bevensen offers seven signposted cycling loops of varying lengths and difficulty levels. For hiking and Nordic walking, there are 15 signposted routes ranging from 5 to 21 kilometres. For walking routes, you can use the distance range as your first selection criterion; for cycling loops, both length and varying difficulty levels are relevant.

Local History and Culture

Guided walks through the town lead from the spa gardens into the old town, passing the Church of the Three Kings and historic buildings. The spa gardens have more than 500 trees, rare plants, a wide variety of plants and numerous places to sit. On a walk, the historic part of town and the design of the park thus offer two distinct points of interest.

Medingen Convent, near Bad Bevensen, is one of six active Protestant convents for women in the Lüneburg Heath. The convent church regularly hosts cultural events. The Kurhaus also offers cultural events throughout the year. In the Lüneburg Heath’s tourism profile, Bad Bevensen is classified as the region’s only mineral spa resort. In 2021, Bad Bevensen was designated the first accessible destination in the state of Lower Saxony.

Culture in the Wider Uelzen Destination

In the wider Uelzen destination, the Hundertwasser Station was created as a project for Expo 2000 in Hanover; it is one of the last works by Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The Gothic St. Mary’s Church in Uelzen was consecrated and elevated to the status of parish church in 1292; its tower is 86 metres high. The Ebstorf World Map was probably created around 1300 at Ebstorf Convent; it covers about 13 m² and is considered the largest known medieval map of the world.
