The palace, equestrian arts and aviation history give Bückeburg several clearly distinct cultural themes. The museum also explores the history of the town and the region, and there is a cycling route in the surrounding area. When planning your trip, you can choose to explore the palace area in depth or combine different themes. As tour arrangements may change, check the latest information on tours and demonstrations before your visit.

Palace, Equestrian Arts and Park

The Fürstliche Hofreitschule in Bückeburg is the only one of its kind in Germany. Demonstrations of historic equestrian arts, with commentary, take place in the historic riding hall. Schloss Bückeburg also offers numerous palace tours; the “Classic Tour” provides a historical insight into the residence palace. This gives you two different ways to experience the palace: a tour offers insights into the history of the residence palace, while a demonstration showcases historic equestrian arts.

Getting to the palace is straightforward: access is via Reitweg in Bückeburg, which also serves as the navigation address. The palace grounds cover more than 80 hectares. The palace park is home to the Fürstliches Mausoleum, the world’s largest private princely crypt. The park and mausoleum add another dimension to the palace’s history alongside the tours and demonstrations.

Town History and Aviation

The permanent exhibition at Museum Bückeburg presents the history of the town and the regional history of the former Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe. The history of a town and that of a former principality thus come together in one exhibition theme. The Protestant town church offers another historical connection: it was built from 1611 to 1615 under the rule of Count Ernst and is one of the most important churches of the early Baroque period.

The Helicopter Museum Bückeburg offers a different perspective. Its interactive experience exhibition covers more than 2,500 m² and features nearly 50 original rotorcraft, aircraft, convertible aircraft and helicopters. Visitors can also operate a helicopter simulator themselves. This offers a technology-focused theme alongside the history of the town and region, clearly distinct from the palace and equestrian arts.

Cycling in the Surrounding Area

In the surrounding area, the Landtour Bückeburg follows cycling paths laid out by the town of Bückeburg through interesting areas around Bückeburg. Cyclists use its rest stops for breaks. This makes cycling a distinct option alongside Bückeburg’s cultural attractions. If you would like to combine both, plan the route to suit your own itinerary.
