The Nemitz Heath Nature Reserve extends into the municipality of Prezelle; the village also has named riding routes and a centrally located church complex. If you are looking for accommodation in Prezelle, you can choose your focus according to whether you are most interested in nature, riding or village history.

Heathland and forest landscape

Prezelle lies on the edge of a 6,000-hectare forest complex. The Nemitz Heath is a breeding ground for birds of open and semi-open, warm and dry heathland, as well as open woodland edges. These habitats show that the breeding landscape includes not only open heathland, but also open woodland margins. For nature enthusiasts, this makes the connection between heath and forest more tangible than a general description of the landscape. The focus on breeding habitat adds an ecological perspective to the landscape description: both heathland and open woodland edges are important.

Church complex and village history

The Prezelle church complex is centrally located in the village and consists of the Protestant church and the churchyard surrounding it. It has historic and urban-planning significance and is designated as a protected group of buildings. The present-day church was built in the mid-18th century after the patron family von Bernstorff had the medieval predecessor church demolished and a new building erected. Prezelle was formerly a Rundling, a circular village, and is first documented as Bitzelle between 1330 and 1352. The church complex also includes a war memorial, erected after the First World War and expanded around 1950. Several layers of history come together here: the early record of the village, the 18th-century church construction and the history of the memorial.

Horse riding and accommodation

A riding station in Prezelle offers accommodation for riders travelling through the area. The regional tourism offering describes several rides with different routes and destinations. The Elbe Riverside Ride leads from Prezelle through the Gartow Forest and Gorleben Forest to the Elbe near Laase. The Prezelle–Heidehaus–Nemitz circular ride passes through the Nemitz Heath and includes a stop at Heidehaus. The two circular rides are also differentiated by experience level: the Prezelle–Heidehaus–Nemitz ride is considered particularly suitable for beginners, while Prezelle–Lanze is described as a short ride through heathland for returning riders. Helmets are mandatory for children and young people on the Prezelle–Heidehaus–Nemitz circular ride. The different routes, destinations and guidance on riding experience offer concrete points of reference when choosing a ride.

Culture in the wider LĂĽchow-Dannenberg destination

In the wider Lüchow-Dannenberg destination, the Wendland Rundlingsmuseum in Lübeln and the Hitzacker Archaeological Centre each offer their own cultural focus. The Rundlingsmuseum presents a farmstead as an open-air museum in the Rundling village of Lübeln; traditional crafts are vividly demonstrated in the pottery, forge, bakehouse and wheelwright’s workshop. The Hitzacker Archaeological Centre is an open-air museum on a site that people were already using around 4,000 years ago. Three reconstructed longhouses and numerous interactive stations give visitors a glimpse into the daily lives of early people. While traditional crafts are the focus in Lübeln, Hitzacker centres on archaeological ways of life.
