Jesteburg offers a range of options for planning a trip: the art house in town, Jesteburg outdoor pool and, in the nearby area, Kunststätte Bossard and the fairy-tale trail “Der Trickser”. Choose from changing exhibitions, a designed art ensemble, various pool facilities and a trail through the forest and past fish ponds.

Art in Jesteburg and the nearby area

Kunsthaus Jesteburg presents changing group and solo exhibitions featuring national and international artistic perspectives. Its focus includes the work of young contemporary artists. Nearby, Johann and Jutta Bossard created an expressive Gesamtkunstwerk that brings together different art forms.

The Kunststätte Bossard ensemble includes a residential and studio house built in the Heimatschutz style, as well as rooms artistically designed down to the smallest detail. These include the Edda Hall, the Erossaal and the Fairy-Tale Room. An Expressionist art temple, various gardens and an artistically designed park are also part of the ensemble. The two cultural offerings therefore have distinct profiles: Kunsthaus focuses on changing exhibitions, while Kunststätte brings together architecture, rooms, an art temple and gardens.

Outdoor pool and fairy-tale trail

Jesteburg outdoor pool offers a 1.90-metre-deep swimming pool and a leisure pool with non-swimmer and swimmer areas. There is also a rainbow slide and a baby pool with water features. The pools and facilities offer a different focus from the art attractions. Check the operator’s latest information before visiting, as features may change.

Nearby, the 3.2-kilometre fairy-tale trail “Der Trickser” climbs and descends through Klecker Forest and a mixed forest, passing fish ponds and featuring 15 interactive stations. If you plan to walk the trail, check the local information in advance.

Getting to Kunststätte Bossard

From Buchholz train station, an approximately 7-kilometre bike ride along a paved cycle path beside the K 83 leads to Kunststätte Bossard. Check the route locally before setting off.

Harburg as the wider travel region

The wider travel destination of Harburg district includes a variety of landscapes: the Elbe marshes, the Harburg Hills, the Northern Heath and, above all, the LĂĽneburg Heath. Together, they form a natural region with a distinctive cultural landscape. The tourist cycle route network should also be considered at district level: a dense network of cycle routes runs through the district, including 1,000 kilometres of signposted tourist cycle paths.

Opened in 2012, the Heidschnuckenweg runs for 223 kilometres from Hamburg through the districts of Harburg, Heidekreis and Celle, as well as through more than 30 large and small heathland areas in the Northern and Southern Heath. The trail is divided into 13 stages; twelve Heideschleifen (Heath Loops) complement it, ranging from 1.4 to 20.9 kilometres in length. These routes describe the wider travel destination of Harburg and provide a regional perspective that extends beyond the individual attractions in Jesteburg and its nearby area.
