At the Marschensee lake, water and biodiversity are the focus of one of four stops connected by an app-guided route through Langen. The town is also located on the western slope of the southern Hohe Lieth, bringing together specific points of interest and a broader landscape setting to help you find your way.

Landscape on the Geest ridge

The Hohe Lieth is a Geest ridge formed during the Saale glaciation, between Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven. Langen lies on its western slope in the southern section. The landscape encompasses Geest and marshland, as well as the influence of the marshes and the sea. This geographical setting gives your stay a broader context that extends beyond individual stops in the town.

Four stops along one route

The three-kilometre route through Langen is accompanied by a smartphone app. You can complete it on foot or by bike, alone or in a group. Its four stops each have a different focus: water and biodiversity at the Marschensee lake, sustainability and energy at the town hall, nature in the Friedrichsruher forest, and history at the Lindenhof.

The tour not only takes you to several places but also connects them by theme. If you want to explore Langen on your own, you can use the app as a guide; the stops range from nature-related topics to history. The route offers a practical way to bring together different aspects of the town in a single tour.

Marschensee lake: paths and sensory garden

As part of the completed improvement project, new paths were created at the Marschensee lake. There is also a sensory garden with an herb bed and a barefoot trail, which is part of the completed local recreation project. This stop thus combines water and biodiversity with another focus: experiencing herbs and different surfaces mindfully.

Local architectural history

The church of St. Peter’s parish in Langen was consecrated in 1980. It is built mainly of wood and red brick. Villa Hinsch offers a different historical point of interest: it was built in 1905 amid a large landscaped garden. The two buildings thus represent different periods and architectural features. If you are interested in local history, they add two distinct points of interest to the themed route.

Festivals, cycling route and other activities

The “Lange(ner) Nächte,” also known as “OGF Langen,” is a traditional town festival organised by Werbegemeinschaft Langen e.V. It takes place at Lindenhof and on the adjoining grounds. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the specific date in advance.

The Geestland Route, designed especially for the town, starts in Wremen and heads towards Langen. In Langen, you can stop along the route at the Müller family’s milk vending station and drink milk straight from the tap. This route information differs from the themed route through Langen: it describes a cycling route starting in Wremen and heading towards Langen, without specifying an endpoint.

The Repair Café Langen – Geestland offers repairs for electrical and mechanical appliances and bicycles on the third Saturday of every month. If you would like to use the service, check the latest information before your visit. You can join BMX racing training at Radsport Club Geestland e.V. at any time; check the training arrangements before your visit.
