Twistetal combines rural scenery with cultural and outdoor activities. The Twiste Open-Air Theatre adds a cultural highlight, while the Twiste Cycle Route takes in river valleys and historic sights. The outdoor swimming pools and hiking trails around Berndorf offer other options. You can tailor your trip to suit your plans, whether you would prefer a performance, a cycling or hiking tour, or outdoor activities.

Twiste Open-Air Theatre: Culture and History

The performance history of the Twiste Open-Air Theatre dates back to 1960. The current venue in the Bachtringhäuser Valley was completed in time for its first performance on 15 July 1978. The start of the performance history and the completion of the current venue therefore took place at different times.

Two retractable canopies protect around 400 seats from sun and rain. The stage area is accessible; there is also a separate wheelchair-accessible toilet. If you arrive at Twiste station, allow around 15 minutes to walk to the open-air theatre.

Cycling and Hiking

The Twiste Cycle Route links idyllic settlements with scenic river valleys. Historic sights lie along the route, as do places to stop for refreshments and rest. The route is suitable for family rides as well as more strenuous cycling tours. You can choose the kind of outing that suits your planned tour and take in the scenery or historic sites along the way.

For a hike, the Berndorf hiking map shows varied routes around Berndorf. It offers a different kind of guidance from the cycle route: instead of planning a bike ride, you can choose one of the hiking trails shown.

Outdoor Swimming Pools and Rural Scenery

The outdoor swimming pools offer another type of outing. Facilities include a paddling pool for young children, play areas and a beach volleyball court. Alongside cycling and hiking trails, there are also opportunities for play and volleyball outdoors.

Twistetal lies amid the scenic countryside of North Waldeck. Its rural character and hospitality create a welcoming setting for visitors. The range of activities spans everything from culture at the open-air theatre to cycling, hiking and outdoor swimming.
