The Art and Adventure Trail follows a walking route of about 2.3 kilometres through Gemünden (Wohra). Its stations cover nature, games, sport, fun and local history. The route combines exercise with a variety of themed highlights; its approximate length also provides a practical guide when planning a stay.
The trail runs in two sections. The first leads from the Old Railway Station to Kälberborn. The second section then follows Neustadtstraße to the Wohra river and downstream to the sports ground, swimming pool and Aumühle Mill.
The Wiera-Wohra Cycle Route passes through Schiffelbach on its way to Gemünden an der Wohra. Cyclists on the Wiera-Wohra Cycle Route or the Ohm-Eder Cycle Route can plan a stop in Gemünden (Wohra).
City History and Stargazing
The Witches’ Tower is the only surviving one of the four former semicircular towers in Gemünden (Wohra)’s town walls; it once served as a watchtower. It is both a surviving remnant of the town’s fortifications and a reminder of its former watch duty. The core of Gemünden’s town church was built between 1431 and 1485. The tower and church offer contrasting points of interest: one recalls the former town wall, while the other has a clearly dated core structure.
In good weather, visitors can observe stars and celestial objects through a telescope at the Gemünden Observatory on Gänseberg. This weather-dependent activity complements the trail and history themes.
Play and Exercise at the Activity Park
Gemünden Activity Park has a balance course, a zip line, a climbing and gymnastics frame, a sandbox, a marble run and plenty of seating. It is designed for all age groups; young children can use the sandbox and marble run. With its play and exercise features and seating, the park offers a different experience from the Art and Adventure Trail.
In the wider Waldeck-Frankenberg destination
The wider Waldeck-Frankenberg destination offers distinctive nature and cultural attractions. The ancient beech forests of Kellerwald-Edersee National Park have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2011. For longer hikes, the 66-kilometre Urwaldsteig Edersee is an option: it can be completed in eight stages or as part of a three-day ranger-led hike, with each stage covering around 22 kilometres. The two formats offer different time commitments.
The GeoFoyer Kalkturm Korbach presents the landscape and living world around Korbach as they were 250 million years ago. Another exhibition focuses on the extraction and processing of limestone, as well as its industrial use in the quarry for more than 100 years. The Historic Town Hall in Frankenberg (Eder) is a half-timbered town hall dating from 1509, with ten towers representing the town’s ten guilds. The themes are quite distinct: Korbach focuses on geological and industrial history, while Frankenberg centres on half-timbered architecture and guild history.
