Herzsprung lies amid lush meadows and fields, between the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve and the “Lower Oder Valley” National Park. Village history, fieldstone architecture, a bathing area on Lake Parstein and various cycle tours offer different perspectives on the place. When planning your trip, culture and landscape take centre stage; the specific options vary depending on the location and route.

Village History and Architectural Heritage

Since 2003, Herzsprung has been a district of the town of Angermünde. The village was first mentioned in 1281 under the name “Hertsprunge” in a deed of gift from the margraves to Chorin Abbey. Herzsprung village church is a late Gothic rectangular fieldstone building with a timber-clad roof tower. In the small village church, you can learn about the history of the region and the village, and discover traces of the cultural and architectural history of Uckermark churches.

Buildings and sites listed as architectural monuments include the war memorial on Lindenstraße (monument number 09130509), the church at Lindenstraße 1 (monument number 09130507), and the farmstead at Lindenstraße 33–35, with its residence, servants’ house, stable and barn. The Ant Fountain offers another cultural motif: artist Mecky Ferber designed it in 2000 as a forest spring. The village’s named landmarks thus range from historic architecture and monuments to a more recent artistic design.

Meadows, Lake and Cycle Routes

There is a bathing area with a sunbathing lawn at the northern tip of Lake Parstein. If you are planning a day of swimming, check the seasonal conditions and facilities before your visit. The lake offers a different focus from the architectural history in the village; you can choose between spending time by the water and exploring the village church as distinct themes.

From Herzsprung, the Uckermark Cycle Route runs along Lake Parstein, winding through forest and fields to Neukünkendorf. The stated distance for this section is 164 km. Two other named tours also pass through Herzsprung: the “Stolpe Grützpott Panorama and Lower Oder Valley National Park” cycle tour and the “Lake Parstein and Crussow Youth Farm” family cycle tour. The circular route has a described course from Herzsprung to Neukünkendorf; the other two tours include the village on their routes. The hilly route to Neukünkendorf characterises the circular route, while the themes of the other two tours are already clear from their names.

Culture in the Angermünde Destination

Angermünde itself also has distinct cultural themes that broaden the focus beyond the village history of Herzsprung. The Angermünde Museum has an extensive archaeological collection of ceramic vessels dating from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. The permanent exhibition “History and Stories” presents discoveries in Angermünde and stories connected with Ehm Welk. St. Mary’s Church in Angermünde was completed around 1250 as the town’s parish church and is still largely preserved in its original condition; Angermünde also has a historic old town protected as a monument.

There are different ways to explore the historic town centre: a guided tour of Angermünde lasts 1.5 hours and takes you through small, narrow lanes along a historic town wall. A digital audio guide follows an approximately 2.5-kilometre loop to various sights and places rich in history. One figure describes a duration, the other an approximate route length—a useful distinction when choosing how to explore the town.
