Zossen’s tourist attractions are spread across ten districts, so it is important to decide on your main focus first when planning your trip. Options range from swimming and water sports to hiking trails and the historical collections in Wünsdorf. The different route lengths and conditions on site may also affect your plans.

Water and trails

The Großer Wünsdorfer See is a 180-hectare lake. A path around eight kilometres long by the lake is ideal for hiking and walking. The circular route to Zossen’s monuments is longer, at about eleven kilometres. It starts at the railway station and leads over the Weinberge hills to the “Alter Krug” Museum; you can walk the entire route or choose sections yourself. This gives you two routes of different lengths and with different focuses to choose from.

Strandbad Kallinchen, which is part of the “Am Strandbad Kallinchen” sports and leisure park, is on Lake Motzen. It has a supervised swimming area and various boats for hire. The beach at Lake Zesch is also part of Zossen’s swimming and recreation options. In Wünsdorf, the beach on the Großer Wünsdorfer See is a place to swim and relax. Check the latest information about the facilities before your trip.

For a water-based sporting activity, the water-ski park in Zossen’s district of Horstfelde offers water skiing. On the Notte Canal, you can take in Zossen’s green surroundings on a hydro-bike. These activities differ from swimming and from walking and hiking trails: the focus here is on exercise on the water. Check the facilities’ operating information before visiting.

Wünsdorf: Book Town and Bunkers

The book and bunker town of Wünsdorf offers guided tours that include areas underground. The old Maybach I and Zeppelin bunkers can now be explored with expert guidance; you can also explore the area via the Historic Circular Route through the “Forbidden City”. Check the latest access rules before visiting the sites.

Wünsdorf’s history is also covered in two different museums: the Garrison Museum and the “Red Star” Museum provide information about military history from the Imperial era through the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich to the Russian military town. This offers a view across several political and historical periods.

An international book town is located in the centre of Wünsdorf. Its antiquarian bookshops contain 300,000 books covering all fields; the collections may change. This extensive book collection offers a different focus from the military history museums and also makes Wünsdorf interesting for readers.

Church, local history museum and wine festival

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Zossen was consecrated in 1735. The plastered building has the unusual-for-the-region floor plan of a transverse-hall church; its interior is decorated in a simple Baroque style. The “Alter Krug” Local History Museum at Weinberge 15 also serves as a museum and meeting place, as well as a listed monument to the region’s local history. It is also on the circular route to the monuments.

A three-day wine festival in autumn has been a regular fixture on Zossen’s event calendar for years. Check the specific dates and whether the festival is continuing before planning your trip. It is a seasonal event, unlike the churches, museums and trails described above, which are available year-round.
