Fichtenwalde lies in the heart of the forest and offers space for peace, nature and relaxation. There is also a network of hiking trails, various cycling routes and recurring events. When planning your trip, the first question is therefore whether you want to focus mainly on the forest setting, outdoor activities or a particular festival.

Forest Setting and Local History

The first summer houses in the Fichtenwalde colony were built in 1908. This date provides a specific reference point in the town’s history alongside its present-day character of peace, nature and relaxation. If you are planning a trip to Fichtenwalde, you can frame your stay in terms of both the landscape and the colony’s origins.

Hiking and Cycling Routes

The Fichtenwalde hiking trail network was officially opened in 2003. There is separate information for cyclists: a cycle path to Beelitz was opened in 2006, and the EuroVelo Route R1 passes directly by Fichtenwalde. A cycle path, separate from motor traffic and around 1.6 kilometres long, also runs between the Beelitz districts of Fichtenwalde and Klaistow. It was completed in January 2019.

Hiking and cycling offer different ways to shape your plans. If a particular tour depends on current trail conditions, check them in advance.

Annual Festivals and a Forest Playground

Viva la Fiwa is a summer festival in Fichtenwalde for visitors of all ages and has been held annually since 2009. In July 2024, the City of Beelitz described live music, market stalls, carousels, food and drink, and a large programme of activities for children. People danced by the stage until 1 a.m. The programme may vary from year to year; if you are planning your trip around the festival, check the latest dates and programme.

The Fichtenwalder Zapfenmarkt is also held annually and has been running since its first edition in 1990. Another place to visit is the forest playground at the Hans-Grade-Haus. Its motto is “FOREST – We All Live Therefore”. The recurring events and the playground can thus be included in your travel plans as distinct interests alongside the trails and forest setting.

Historical and Cultural Attractions in the Wider Beelitz Destination

In the wider Beelitz destination, the town parish church offers a historical point of interest of its own: it was first mentioned in documents in 1247 and was originally a Romanesque pillar basilica built from dressed fieldstones. The Holy Blood legend made Beelitz the first pilgrimage site in the region east of the Elbe and possibly also in the German-speaking world; a chapel was built around 1340. The historic old town of Beelitz, around 800 years old, invites visitors to explore its historic buildings. Ernst Vogel Watermill is located on MĂĽhlenstraĂźe, at the edge of the old town.

The history of asparagus cultivation in Beelitz is also part of this regional perspective: in 1861, Beelitz farmer and burgher Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Herrmann was the first to grow asparagus on a commercial scale. Other people in Beelitz gradually followed his example. This history is about cultivation and complements the historical attractions in the wider Beelitz destination.

Plan Your Stay and Journey

When looking for a hotel in Fichtenwalde, use the focus of your trip as a guide: forests and relaxation, hiking and cycling, or one of the annual festivals. If a festival is the reason for your visit, check your plans against the latest date. The nearest railway connection to Fichtenwalde is Beelitz-Heilstätten station, around five kilometres away. Check current services before planning your journey.
