Kleinzerlang lies on a peninsula that is surrounded by natural and man-made bodies of water on 75 percent of its perimeter; the village is also located at an important waterway junction. Water takes many forms here: from the bathing area and canoe station on Lake Kleiner Pälitzsee to a circular waterway route around 520 kilometres long. There are also walking and cycling routes, as well as a few reminders of the village’s history. When planning your trip, it helps not to think of these offerings as one single route: they range from spending time in one place to a multi-day boat trip.

Peninsula, Nature and Trails

Kleinzerlang lies in Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park. The park brings together recreation, environmentally sensitive use of its land and waterways, and the conservation of the region’s natural wealth. The bathing area is on Lake Kleiner Pälitzsee: a long stretch of meadow with rows of trees and changing huts.

The “Old Beech” stands on Neumühler Weg. It consists of seven European beeches that have grown together. At a height of about 1.30 metres, their combined circumference is approximately 4.6 metres. These approximate measurements refer to the trees as a whole. So, alongside the open shoreline, there is also a striking natural landmark in the village.

Information boards in and around Kleinzerlang show hiking trails. Cycling routes pass through meadows, forests, canals and lakes. At the regional level, “Laufpark Stechlin” offers signposted running and hiking trails with distance markers. The routes cover different areas: the boards refer to trails in and around Kleinzerlang, while the Laufpark routes are described for the region.

Waterways and Practical Information

From Kleinzerlang, a circular waterway route around 520 kilometres long can be travelled in approximately twelve days. It runs via Lake Kleiner Pälitzsee, the Müritz, the Elbe, the Havel, Berlin’s waterways, and the Lower and Upper Havel Waterways. This approximate duration and distance provide a guide for a multi-day trip; navigation conditions may vary.

The Rheinsberger Seenkette canoe station is in Kleinzerlang on Lake Kleiner Pälitzsee, at “Boot und Mehr”. Its offerings include paddling, small motorboats and rafts. This gives visitors a choice of different types of watercraft in the village, alongside the much larger circular route as a separate planning option. Availability and operating conditions may change; check the station’s latest information before travelling.

Wolfsbruch Lock regulates the water level between Lake Großer Prebelowsee and Lake Kleiner Pälitzsee. It has been converted to a self-service lock. Check operating conditions before a boat trip. The public landing stage at the municipal beach has electricity, fresh water, toilets and showers. These facilities may be seasonal, so take that into account when planning.

Village Church and Local History

The list of protected monuments published by the State of Brandenburg and dated 1 January 2026 includes the village church in Kleinzerlang. Seasonal visiting hours are given as 1 May to 31 October, daily from 8 am to 6 pm. Check whether these opening hours are still current before visiting.

The old bell is also part of Kleinzerlang’s church history: it is considered the church’s oldest object and was given a place of honour in the village’s Old Churchyard. The church and bell offer different perspectives on local history—the monument list classifies the building, while the bell has been handed down as a historical object.

Culture in the Wider Rheinsberg Destination

In the wider Rheinsberg destination, Rheinsberg Palace on Lake Grienericksee brings nature, architecture and art together in a harmonious ensemble. Restored interior decorations from the Frederician period around 1740, as well as early Neoclassical interiors dating to around 1786, paintings and decorative arts offer an impression of the domestic culture, way of life and collecting activities of former owners.

Also in the wider Rheinsberg destination, Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg presents an international festival of young opera singers in spring and summer, featuring music theatre and concerts. Young artists from around the world bring the festival to life; the programme changes from year to year. Alongside Kleinzerlang’s waterways and village history, this offers a distinct seasonal cultural highlight in the wider destination.
