Langewahl lies between the Spree and the Dubrow Hills. Forests, meadows and the Spree shape the landscape. The local attractions offer different points of interest when planning a visit: hiking trails through wooded hills, the Oster Spring, and local history and production.

Local history and the village church

Langewahl was founded in 1772 by Frederick II as a colonist village. The small village church is another local landmark. A local story links the name Langewahl to Benjamin Winkelmann, who took a long time to choose a name for the village. Alongside the landscape, the village’s founding and a local story about its name are therefore part of its character.

Hikes to the Oster Spring

Numerous hiking trails lead through the gently rolling, wooded hills of the Dubrow Hills towards the Oster Spring. At the source, the water flows east and gathers in a pond. Wooden steps lead from there towards the hills. The area invites hikers to stop, rest and refresh themselves. When planning your route, check the condition of the steps and the trail conditions on site.

The combination of hilly terrain and the spring area gives hikes a clear point of orientation: the trails pass through the wooded hills and lead towards the Oster Spring. Once there, you can pause rather than treating the hike simply as a route to cover. The wooden steps described here are a distinctive feature of the spring area; check their condition before planning your route around them.

Water activities and local production

In Langewahl’s Streitberg district, boating and fishing are associated with the area. Access to the water and local conditions may vary, so check the specific situation before taking part in these activities. The Langewahl-Streitberg water rest area is located on the Oder-Spree Canal. It is a distinct landmark along the canal. In Streitberg, Kulturbrennerei Streitberg has been processing local fruit since October 2009. Local produce thus adds another point of interest alongside the area’s landscape and water.

Langewahl in the Oder-Spree travel region

Other places in the wider Oder-Spree travel region have their own points of interest. In Bad Saarow, the approximately 1.5-kilometre-long Lesser Promenade runs along the lake shore from Kurpark to Fontanepark. In Neuzelle, the five-hectare Baroque garden was restored according to original plans from the 1758 abbey atlas; its features include Baroque pathways, water features and a terraced area.

Beeskow Castle also offers a distinctive historical attraction: its listed ensemble brings together buildings dating from 1250 to 1550. The 30-metre-high keep has an observation platform. Since the 1990s, the castle has also hosted theatre performances, concerts and festivals. In the regional context, promenades, garden art and castle culture complement Langewahl’s local focus on hiking trails, landscape and the Oster Spring.
