Reichenow-Möglin offers several reasons to stay: Reichenow Castle, a historic building and hotel; Thaer memorial sites in Möglin; and a bathing area on Schlosssee. When planning your stay, you can decide whether you want to focus on architecture and local history, a visit to the water, or both.
Reichenow Castle as a historic building and place to stay
Reichenow Castle is set in the parkland by Langer See. This notable building was constructed around 1900 in the English Tudor style and served as a filming location for the series “Bibi & Tina”. The architecture and connection to the series give the castle two distinct points of interest: its historic style and its cultural renown.
The stylishly restored castle is now home to a hotel with a restaurant. The hotel has a park with access to the lake. The restaurant welcomes hotel guests and diners from the surrounding area alike; its cuisine is regional, sustainable, fresh and down-to-earth. Restaurant information and concepts can change, so it is advisable to check the latest details before visiting.
Thaer sites and manor park in Möglin
Albrecht Daniel Thaer’s grave is located in Möglin Manor Park. A permanent exhibition dedicated to his life and work has been on display in a modern pavilion since 2009. Thaer (1752–1828) was a teacher, statesman and agricultural scientist. The grave and exhibition offer different points of focus: one lets you encounter his memorial here on site, while the other tells you about his life and work. Check the exhibition’s current opening hours separately.
The manor park, together with the estate courtyard, manor house and inspector’s house, is a protected historic site. A circular path through the park leads to a marble bust of Thaer from 1978 and a large memorial stone with a bronze relief from 1856. The dates help distinguish the two memorials: the bust and the relief are separate works from different periods. Möglin therefore offers several tangible points of interest for a history-focused visit, from the memorials in the park to the exhibition.
Möglin Village Church: building history and reconstruction
Möglin Village Church is a rectangular fieldstone building; its older fabric dates from the late 16th century. In April 1945, the church was destroyed, leaving only three of its perimeter walls. It was rebuilt between 1955 and 1962, and all of its interior furnishings were lost. The building’s form and the age of its older fabric thus sit alongside a much later history shaped by destruction and reconstruction. Möglin Thaer Memorial Site provides access to the village church. Check the current access arrangements in advance.
Bathing area on Schlosssee in Reichenow
The bathing area on Schlosssee in Reichenow is opposite the castle, on the lake’s southeastern shore and right at the edge of the village. Facilities include a wide sandy area, a place to lie in the sun, a jetty and a small diving tower. Access is via the path along the southeastern shore of the lake. Parking is available in the village and along the village road.
The bathing area is a separate option alongside the historic sites in Möglin and at the castle. Check access, facilities and parking arrangements before your visit; conditions may change seasonally.
