Neutrebbin combines local history with a clearly defined hike: the Lovers’ Monument on Liebesinsel, the “Old Fritz” Monument and a 3.45-kilometre trail give visitors specific points of interest. The Heimatstube also has an exhibition area devoted to the changes of the 20th century. For more on culture, nature and cycling, you can broaden your view to the larger destination of Märkisch-Oderland.

Monuments and Local History

The Lovers’ Monument on Liebesinsel in Neutrebbin was erected in 1990 by sculptor Janulies Tembrides. The “Old Fritz” Monument was re-erected in Neutrebbin in 1994 and is dedicated to Frederick II (1712–1782). The two monuments therefore represent different historical reference points: one was erected in 1990, while the other was re-erected and is dedicated to Frederick II. At the Heimatstube Neutrebbin, the second section of the exhibition documents the changes of the 20th century. Thus, alongside the stories of the individual monuments, developments of that century are presented as a topic in their own right.

The Hiking Trail through Neutrebbin

The Friedensplatz–Weidenweg–Kuhstallstraße–Wriezener Straße hiking trail is 3.45 km long and can be started at any point in Neutrebbin. The route described starts at Friedensplatz, passes through the Drift to Weidenweg, goes past the biogas plant and continues along the cycle path on Wriezener Damm. In town, it follows Wriezener Straße and Hauptstraße back to Friedensplatz. The route connects sections outside the town with streets within it; you do not have to start at Friedensplatz. This gives you two specific details to plan around: the stated trail length and the freedom to choose your starting point anywhere in Neutrebbin. Check local conditions before setting out.

More to Explore in the Larger Destination of Märkisch-Oderland

Märkisch-Oderland also offers a range of cultural attractions. The Brecht-Weigel-Haus in Buckow has been a museum since 1977. The literature museum hosts readings, concerts, talks, discussions, films, exhibitions and special guided tours throughout the year; individual offerings vary. The Seelower Höhen Memorial and Museum presents a multimedia exhibition on the events of the war, its consequences and the use of the memorial site, in German and English. The outdoor grounds are freely accessible regardless of opening hours. Check the latest information before your trip; the statement about the outdoor grounds does not apply to the museum’s opening hours.

For nature experiences in Märkische Schweiz, choose between two different routes: the 17 km Natura Trail and the certified Märkische Schweiz Nature Park Route, which is just under 21 km long. By comparison, the Neutrebbin hiking trail is considerably shorter at 3.45 km. For cycling tours, Märkisch-Oderland features the Oder-Neiße Cycle Route. The main route of the Oderbruchbahn Cycle Route runs from Fürstenwalde/Spree or, alternatively, from Müncheberg to Wriezen; the landscape and the history of rail transport shape the route. Check local conditions and any possible changes to individual connections when planning.
