Grassau offers a range of reasons to visit: swimming and leisure activities at Lake Reifing, moorland and technology exhibits at the Salt & Moor Museum, and guided tours and concerts at the Sawallisch Estate. When planning your visit, it is worth checking the relevant facilities, route conditions and dates. Lake Chiemsee and Lake Waginger See are also located in the Traunstein district.

Lake Reifing: Swimming and Leisure

Lake Reifing is a swimming lake with a water surface area of 20,000 square metres. Facilities include sunbathing lawns and a jetty, as well as a non-swimmer area and a bathing area for small children. There is also a “mud bridge” for small children; a playground, a beach volleyball court and a small raft round out the leisure facilities. This means visitors can enjoy the lake not only by swimming, but also through play and exercise.

Facilities for Visitors

At Lake Reifing, there is a changing room accessible to wheelchair users and a wheelchair available for use on site, stored in a booth secured with a euro-key lock. A ramp by the shore makes it easier to enter the water; the accessible toilet can be opened with a euro key. If you rely on these facilities, confirm the details that are important for your visit before travelling.

Salt & Moor Museum and KendlmĂĽhlfilzen

The Salt & Moor Museum features information panels, models, films and simulations explaining how the historic brine pumping station worked. A moorland exhibition complements the subject with original artefacts, dioramas and interactive exhibits. Kendlmühlfilzen, one of the largest raised bogs in southern Germany, borders the Salt & Moor Museum Klaushäusl directly. This gives the exhibition topics a clear local connection to the surrounding moorland.

There is parking and a public toilet at the museum. Facilities may change, so check before your visit if you rely on them.

Moor Adventure Trail: Check the Current Route

The Moor Adventure Trail starts right at the Salt & Moor Museum between Grassau and Rottau and is partially accessible. It is being redesigned. The route for the stroller-friendly option has changed; the forest path is not suitable for strollers. Check the current route before your visit, especially if you are travelling with a stroller.

Guided Tours, Concerts and Bus

The Sawallisch Estate is in Kucheln, a district of Grassau, and is managed by the Wolfgang Sawallisch Foundation. It is open to visitors during guided tours and regular concerts at the villa. If you are planning a visit, check the calendar for dates.

The Achental bus route 9505 serves the Grassau Kirchplatz stop. It is not always possible to take bicycles on board. If you are travelling with a bicycle, check the current transport conditions before your journey.
