A communal brewery, a heated outdoor pool and the Fit & Fun Park each give Mitterteich a different character. When planning your visit, it helps to sort the attractions by interest: brewing tradition, outdoor recreation or swimming. There is also a picnic service with a specific connection to the town. This way, you can decide which themes you want to shape your stay.

Brewing rights, building history and picnic service

At the communal brewery in Mitterteich, every citizen has the right to brew beer. The new brewery was built in 1864 in what is now the suburb, formerly known as Gänsewiese. The brewing rights and the building history tell two different aspects of the brewery: the right to brew and the origins of the new building at this location.

The Mitterteich picnic service is another local attraction. For groups of two or more, it delivers a picnic basket from the Mitterteich bakery to two panoramic spots. Arrange the service with the town’s Tourist Information office.

Fit & Fun Park and Wallenstein cycle route

The Fit & Fun Park features a BMX pump track, a children’s playground with play equipment, a table tennis table, a streetball court, a skating area and a grass sports field. The facilities range from play and ball sports to skating and BMX. If you are interested in different recreational activities, you can consider each facility individually by type.

The park connects to the cross-border Wallenstein cycle route along the former railway line. Its open space and this connection were created when the disused Wiesau–Waldsassen railway line was dismantled and Federal Highway 15 was rerouted. The site’s history and its present-day connection to the cycle route are thus two sides of the same place: how it came about and what it offers for recreation.

Mitterteich Outdoor Pool: Pools and Facilities

Mitterteich Outdoor Pool has heated swimming pools. The swimming pool has 50-metre lanes; the diving pool has 1-, 3- and 5-metre platforms. The non-swimmer pool has a 41-metre water slide. Check the pool’s seasonal operating information before your visit.

A distinct regional focus: Tirschenreuth

In the wider destination of Tirschenreuth, the MuseumsQuartier combines the Upper Palatinate Fisheries Museum with six other specialized exhibitions in a former monastery. Visitors can explore almost 1,000 years of fishing and fish-farming history there and see local fish in four large aquariums. The MuseumsQuartier regularly hosts special exhibitions, talks, readings and concerts. As individual dates may change, check the event details in advance.

In Fischhofpark in Tirschenreuth, the historic Fischhof Bridge and the Fischhof, which houses the district court, are located in the centre. Regional cuisine is another theme to explore: Tirschenreuth district is known for Zoigl, the cult beer of the Upper Palatinate Forest, and for carp from the pond landscapes of the “Land of 1,000 Ponds.” In Tirschenreuth, museums, historic sites and regional specialties stand as distinct themes alongside Mitterteich’s attractions.
