Konnersreuth can be discovered through two very different approaches: the local history associated with Therese Neumann and trails that put the forest and physical activity at the center. The Resl House, the Resl Garden and the parish church give the town a cultural and historical character; the forest contemplation trail and an eleven-kilometre circular hiking trail offer different outdoor experiences. When planning your visit, you can therefore first decide whether to focus on local history, a trail through the forest or a longer circular hike.

The Resl Story and Rococo

The Resl House in Konnersreuth is the birthplace of Therese Neumann. She was born there on 8 April 1898. If you are interested in her story, this gives you a concrete biographical connection to the town.

At the Resl Garden, next to the Therese Neumann Museum, you can learn about the Resl of Konnersreuth, as well as flowers, plants and the garden’s eventful history. Biographical and garden-related subjects sit side by side here. The present-day parish church offers a different focus: it was built from 1775 to 1782 and is a beautiful example of late Rococo. In Konnersreuth, you can encounter both history connected with Therese Neumann and a precisely dated building with its own distinctive architectural character.

Forest Contemplation Trail and Circular Hike

The forest contemplation trail is located on the Konnsberg near Konnersreuth. It invites everyone to see and follow the path of God’s creation and enjoy the beauty of the forest. The forest and spiritual reflection come together here.

There is also a pavilion at the forest contemplation trail with information about the trail, the Resl of Konnersreuth and Waldsassen Abbey. As well as the forest, the information along the route covers local and religious history.

Another hiking option is the eleven-kilometre circular trail that starts in Konnersreuth and crosses the Stiftland landscape to the pilgrimage church of the Holy Trinity at Kappl. The church is a Baroque gem with a striking circular form and three majestic towers. Unlike the forest contemplation trail, this circular hike has a stated distance and a specific destination. If you include it in your plans, check current trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Hiking and Cycling in the Wider Region

In Konnersreuth, you can enjoy a hiking or cycling holiday in the Stiftland holiday region, the northern Steinwald and the Fichtelgebirge. This regional setting complements the different experiences on offer locally: you can focus on local history, choose the forest contemplation trail or plan a hike with a named destination. Which experiences work well together depends on whether you want to focus your stay more on culture or on hiking and nature.

Tirschenreuth: Fishing and Museums

Tirschenreuth offers a distinct cultural focus. Its MuseumsQuartier combines the Upper Palatinate Fishing Museum with six other specialized exhibitions in a former monastery. Visitors can explore almost 1,000 years of fishing and fish farming history and see native fish in four large aquariums. Fishing and fish farming are therefore at the heart of Tirschenreuth, while the places described in Konnersreuth focus primarily on Therese Neumann, church architecture and experiences in the forest.

The MuseumsQuartier regularly hosts special exhibitions, talks, readings and concerts. Individual dates may change, so check the current program when planning a specific visit. This helps you place the museum visit in context without assuming that these events are a regular part of a stay in Konnersreuth.
