The Inn Valley Cycle Route runs right through Simbach am Inn. There are also hiking trails around Schellenberg, the Winklham Nature Trail and an outdoor swimming pool; the local history museum offers further insight into the town’s history, art and railway. This combination gives you concrete starting points for choosing a stay: trails and scenery, cultural interests or swimming.

Cycle route, hiking trails and scenery

Four different hiking trails of around 7 to 10 km are offered around Schellenberg; the Winklham Nature Trail is shorter, at around 2.6 km, and runs right through Simbach am Inn. Along the nature trail, four themed information boards, two overview boards and 19 signposts provide information about the habitats, animals and plants on the hillside above Winklham. This gives the route a clear connection to nature. Conditions may vary on individual hiking trails; check the route information before setting out.

At 552 m above sea level, Schellenberg is the highest elevation between the Inn and Rott rivers and offers views of the Inn Valley and neighbouring Upper Austria. Its elevation and views are distinctive landscape features that shape the area around Simbach.

Local history, art and railways

The Simbach am Inn Local History Museum explores the history, culture and everyday life of the town and its surroundings. The permanent exhibition provides an overview of 150 years of railway history. The gallery dedicated to Josef Karl Nerud displays around 50 works by the artist, who was born in Simbach, from all periods of his career. The museum thus offers perspectives ranging from the town and its surroundings to a focused look at one artist’s work across different phases of his career.

St. Mary’s Catholic Parish Church also offers a tangible connection to history: it was consecrated in 1864. Together with the themes explored at the local history museum, it adds a cultural focus alongside nature and cycling.
