Ering can be explored through nature on the Inn, named trails and historic buildings. The Naturium on the Inn is located in Ering-Frauenstein, at the heart of the Lower Inn European Nature Reserve. As a cross-border visitor, nature conservation and environmental education centre, it brings these themes together in one place. It is accessible without barriers, and admission is free. The Roman Cycle Route passes directly by the Naturium. If you would like to combine cycling and nature, you can include both points of interest in your travel plans.

Ering lies between the broad Inn Valley to the south and wooded hills to the north. This north–south orientation adds two clearly identified landscape areas to the description of the town.

Hiking trails and connections

The “Hiking between the Rott and Inn” project includes 33 hiking trails connecting Ering with Stubenberg, Rotthalmünster, Malching and Kößlarn. The Ho Chi Minh Trail runs between Ering and Stubenberg. While the project brings together several trails and destinations, the Ho Chi Minh Trail is a specifically named connection between two places. This distinction is useful when planning a trip and choosing between a broader range of hiking options and a specific connection between towns.

Gothic churches and historic houses

The parish church of the Assumption of Mary in Ering is an important Late Gothic church dating from around 1478. Above its portal is a Madonna of Mercy created in 1441. Its date of creation therefore predates the approximate date of the church. The pilgrimage church of St. Anne is a Late Gothic building dating from 1520 onwards; its furnishings are from the 17th century. The construction period and furnishings are therefore separate points in time. Historic wooden houses from the 16th and 17th centuries have also been preserved in Ering. This offers a view of architectural history ranging from sacred buildings to historic wooden houses. Ering Castle is another type of building: a three-winged, three-storey residential complex from the 18th century.

There is an important restriction to bear in mind when planning a visit to Ering Castle: it is privately owned and cannot be visited. As access arrangements may change, check them again before your trip.

Rottal-Inn as the wider context

In the wider destination of Rottal-Inn, the “Gothic Tours” introduce residents and tourists to selected Gothic monuments. Brochures, maps, the tour portal and the Gothic Portal provide ways to explore them. The Gothic Portal also offers audio guides to Gothic buildings that can be accessed on site, as well as an online museum with information, knowledge and learning resources.

The wider destination of Rottal-Inn also offers a broader context for planning hikes and cycling trips: the leisure region has a well-developed, extensive network of trails, with several hundred kilometres for hikers and cyclists. The leisure region’s tour portal supports individual route planning with details on elevation profiles, trail conditions and GPX downloads.
