The Meditation Trail starts at the Artrium and follows a route of about 700 metres through Bad Birnbach’s spa park. Its stations offer prompts for reflection and drawings created especially for the trail by Thomas Richter. The route thus combines a clearly defined path with ideas to consider along the way.

The Artrium is also a concert venue, hosting performances ranging from classical music to rock ’n’ roll. This means a trail with themed stations and a music programme offer two different ways to experience culture. If you are making specific concert plans, it is a good idea to check the event dates.

Local History and Golf in Bad Birnbach

Since 2013, the permanent historical exhibition “1,200 Years of Bad Birnbach” has been on display in two rooms of the former monastery. It offers a historical focus that differs from the concerts and the Meditation Trail. Its title alone directs attention to the town’s history over a long period of time.

The Bella Vista Golfpark in Bad Birnbach is a municipally operated golf course. Golf thus adds a distinct focus to the local walking and cultural offerings. When deciding what you would like to prioritise during your stay, you can choose between activity in the spa park, local history, music and golf.

Rottal-Inn as a Regional Setting

Looking beyond the town, the wider destination of Rottal-Inn offers further reasons to visit. Its range of attractions includes thermal baths and theatre, Gothic monuments, cycling and hiking, and farm-related experiences. This distinction can help with your travel planning: you can first decide whether your stay will focus mainly on Bad Birnbach itself or on the broader attractions of Rottal-Inn.

In Rottal-Inn, the Rottal Terme has more than 30 pleasantly warm thermal-water pools at temperatures of 26 to 40 °C, as well as 13 different saunas and steam baths. The complex also includes a 105-metre-long thermal stream and health, prevention and wellness services. These figures may change if the facilities are renovated; if they are important to your plans, check the current offerings before your visit.

The Theater an der Rott also broadens the cultural offerings in the wider destination of Rottal-Inn. Each year, it presents premieres in drama, musical theatre, concerts, dance, operetta and opera, and it is the only theatre in Germany owned by a rural district. You can choose between different types of stage and concert events; for a specific performance, it is worth checking the dates.

In Rottal-Inn, the “Gothic Tours” introduce residents and tourists to selected monuments through brochures, maps, a tour portal and a Gothic portal. The Gothic portal offers audio guides to Gothic buildings that can be accessed on site, as well as an online museum with information, knowledge and learning resources. This gives you access to both printed guides and resources available on site and online.

The Inn Cycle Path runs through the Lower Inn European Nature Reserve and offers a variety of insights into local flora and fauna in the Rottal-Inn leisure region. The region also has a well-developed, extensive network of trails spanning several hundred kilometres for hikers and cyclists. The tour portal supports individual route planning with elevation profiles, information on trail conditions and GPX downloads. This information can help you consider routes with different profiles.

The Rottaler Farm Tour offers a different regional perspective, with experiences centred on rural life, everyday work and wildlife. It also includes farming culture, traditional crafts, handicraft techniques and regional specialities. Rural working and everyday culture, along with regional cuisine, thus stand alongside thermal baths, theatre and cycling routes as distinct themes.
