Riedering lies on Lake Simssee and offers several clearly distinct themes: religious architecture, nature observation, scenic views and individual experiences. This makes it easy to explore the area based on what matters to you on your trip. Its specific features range from a miraculous image to nature and educational stations.

Churches, art and tradition

The branch and pilgrimage church of “Maria Stern and St. John the Baptist” in Neukirchen am Simssee is a sight in Riedering and houses the miraculous image “Maria Stern.” Those interested in religious architecture will find a clearly defined focal point here. The annual Leonhardiritt is significant for Pietzing and its surrounding area; as a recurring tradition, it provides a cultural focus distinct from the pilgrimage church. At artist Michael Moroder’s studio in Wolferkam, visitors can learn about some of his artworks and the stories behind them. The “Churches in the municipality” station is also located on Kirchberg in Riedering.

Landscape, trails and views

There are several clearly distinct points of interest for those drawn to the landscape. Well-maintained hiking and cycling trails offer a chance to explore Riedering’s rare flora and fauna. The “South Shore of Lake Simssee” nature reserve has existed since 1993. The trails and the protected area offer different ways to experience nature: exploring flora and fauna on the one hand, and visiting a protected stretch of shoreline on the other. Kapellenberg in Söllhuben is considered Riedering’s most beautiful viewpoint; from there, you can look out over the chain of the Rosenheim mountains.

Activities and themed stations

The 9-hole reversible course at Patting-Hochriesblick Golf Course can be played in both directions. “Reversible” refers specifically to this option. At the “Energy” station in Obermühl, at Wagenstaller Naturkostmühle, a water feature and information boards introduce the topic of energy conversion in a fun, interactive way. The geology station in Moosen uses impressive erratic boulders from different geological periods to illustrate how Lake Simssee and the landscape in and around Riedering were formed.

At the “Fish in Lake Simssee” station in Ecking, a rotating display depicts bream, carp, pike, whitefish and zander. The swimming area by Seewirt in Ecking on Lake Simssee has a children’s beach. The fruit growing in the snack garden is there for visitors to sample. The specific themes vary accordingly, from energy conversion and geology to fish in Lake Simssee, swimming areas and the snack garden.

More themes in the wider Rosenheim destination

The wider Rosenheim destination includes other cultural and nature attractions in Amerang and between Amerang and Halfing. The Amerang Farmhouse Museum, run by the District of Upper Bavaria, showcases farmhouses, craft buildings and technical installations from the Chiemgau region. Established in 2010, the moorland educational trail between Amerang and Halfing explains how the moorland formed after the Ice Age and introduces the local flora and fauna.
