Obertraubling offers several ways to enjoy a stay combining culture and time outdoors: the local history and farming museum in Oberhinkofen, St. George’s Parish Church and outdoor recreation in the Frauenholz forest. Local attractions thus range from crafts and rural life to sacred architecture and trails through the countryside. When choosing what to see, you can decide whether to focus more on local history, individual buildings or outdoor activities.

Local History, Crafts and Buildings

The Pius Detterbeck Local History and Farming Museum Obertraubling is located 3 km southwest of Obertraubling in Oberhinkofen, a village incorporated into the municipality. It is in an old village building opposite St. Michael’s Church. This precise location makes Oberhinkofen an important reference point if the museum is part of your travel plans.

The museum showcases traditional crafts, life on the farm and local trades. Craft practices, rural life and occupations are thus presented as related themes. Anyone interested in this local world of everyday life and work will find a different focus here than at the town’s sacred buildings.

St. George’s Parish Church has a striking 56-metre-high tower. The memorial chapel for those killed or missing in the World Wars was built in 1921. The two buildings offer different points of interest: the church stands out for its tower, while the chapel is dedicated to commemorating those killed or missing. Obertraubling therefore offers both an architectural landmark and a place of remembrance.

Trails and Outdoor Recreation

The former Frauenholz military training area now offers outdoor recreation, with cycling and hiking trails. This adds an outdoor focus alongside local history and buildings. The trails let you consider exploring Frauenholz on foot or by bike.

The route around Obertraubling follows the Litzelbach stream and runs along paved, field and forest paths. The stream and the variety of surfaces shape the route. A nature trail is one of the attractions along the way, as is the Apisbrunnen fountain near Obertraubling Town Hall. The route starts and ends at the town hall, where the fountain is also located.
