Stötten a.Auerberg combines an immersive experience of nature in the Stöttener Moos with a church whose furnishings reflect different art-historical influences. The Moos Adventure Trail and St. Peter and Paul Parish Church offer two different reasons to visit: moorland and outdoor activity on the one hand, architectural and art history on the other.

Moorland, activity and landscape

The Moos Adventure Trail leads into the Stöttener Moos on the western edge of Stötten a.Auerberg. Its 13 interactive stations explore sensory awareness, movement and meditation, and invite visitors to take part actively and playfully. The focus is on experiencing the largely little-known moorland firsthand. The stations offer visitors a range of themes to engage with, while the moorland provides a shared setting.

The Stöttener Moor in the Geltnach Valley, together with the 1,055-metre-high Auerberg, shapes the landscape of Stötten a.Auerberg and its immediate surroundings. Well-marked hiking trails lead from Stötten through the Geltnach Valley. The “Erlebniswege Auerbergland” map, published jointly by Stötten and ten other municipalities, provides a shared guide to cycling and hiking routes. It includes routes in the region as well as sights along the way.

Church and local legend

St. Peter and Paul Parish Church is a historic building that showcases art from many centuries. The altar is adorned with a Crucifixion group dating from 1525. The church was enlarged in 1780, and Joseph Keller from Pfronten created a large ceiling fresco whose style bridges Rococo and Classicism. The Crucifixion group provides a specific historical point of reference, while the fresco introduces a distinct stylistic influence. Together, these details reveal the different art-historical influences in the church’s furnishings.

Another place with its own story is the Bodenloser See, between Stötten a.Auerberg and Steinbach on the south side of the Auerberg. A local legend is associated with the lake: a monster is said to guard a huge treasure in its depths. The lake thus links a specific location with a traditional story that differs markedly from the art-historical themes of the parish church.

Planning your stay

The Moos Adventure Trail starts at the church square in the village centre, where parking and an inn are available. This provides a practical point of reference for planning your visit. To get to Stötten a.Auerberg, follow the B16 and take the Stötten a.Auerberg exit.

If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Stötten a.Auerberg, use your preferred focus for your stay to help you decide: the Moos Adventure Trail and hiking trails are all about landscape and activity, while the parish church offers art and architectural history. The church square, where the trail begins, adds a specific point of reference in the village centre.
