144 steps lead up to the observation tower on Stückberg, while the gently sloping shore of Atzmannsee is ideal for children to paddle. These two options offer different kinds of outings: a walk in the nearby area or time at the recreation complex. In Eslarn, tennis courts and explicitly winter activities are also available there.

Atzmannsee: Shore, Tennis and Winter Activities

The shore at the Atzmannsee recreation complex slopes gently and is ideal for children to paddle. The complex has four sand tennis courts. If tennis is part of your plans, check their availability in advance. In winter, ice skating and Bavarian curling are possible there; ask locally about current conditions. The seasonal highlights differ: the shore and paddling on the one hand, ice skating and Bavarian curling on the other.

Hiking Trails and Views in the Surrounding Area

In the nearby area around Eslarn, Circular Trail 24 leads to a summit at an elevation of 808 metres; 144 steps lead up to the observation tower. This outing therefore has two distinct sections: the hiking trail to the summit and the climb up the tower stairs.

The Bruckhof Circular Trail No. 20 follows a different route. It crosses the Loisbach and passes the Roßtränkmühle mill on its way to the “Atzmann” hiking junction. There it meets the Wallenstein-Tilly Trail, the Glassmakers’ Trail and the connecting trail to the Goldsteig. If you include one of these connections in your route, check the local trail markers.

Wildlife Park and Bird Park: Different Nature Themes

The wildlife park on Stückberg has a spacious forest playground with seating. It is located at the foot of Stückberg at an elevation of around 600 metres. Quiz boards about forests, water and animals are placed around the enclosure. The wildlife park also has an insect hotel, a tree telephone, a wooden musical instrument and a barefoot path. An information pavilion and a nature navigator stand at the entrance to the playground and wildlife enclosure.

Free parking is available at Eslarn Wildlife Park. If you need a parking space, check the local information before setting off. The bird park in Bürgermeister-Karl-Roth-Kurpark in Eslarn has a different focus: its nine large aviaries are home to around 200 native and 50 exotic bird species. The numbers of species may change over time.

Neustadt An Der Waldnaab: The Bockl as a Regional Option

The route can be explored on foot, by bicycle or on inline skates. It is mostly paved and traffic-free; gradients rarely exceed three percent. This makes the Bockl a different kind of outing from the hiking trails mentioned above.

The Bockl trailhead in Neustadt an der Waldnaab is directly accessible by train. Trains run hourly to the terminus of the Nuremberg–Neustadt an der Waldnaab line; from there, you can transfer directly to your bicycle. Check the timetable before travelling.
