A 17th-century avenue of lime trees, historic guided walks and the Steigerwald Way of St. James offer different ways to explore Scheinfeld. The activities vary in format: the old town tour specifies its duration and route; tours of the castle take place regularly from Easter to October. The baths are also open seasonally. This lets you weigh up history, a route through the town and time for a swim when planning your visit.

Discover the old town and castle on guided tours

Since mid-2026, the town of Scheinfeld has offered professionally guided tours of its historic old town. The tour lasts around 1.5 hours and runs from the Upper Gate Tower along the main street to the Catholic parish church. If you plan to include a walking tour of the town in your schedule, you can use this approximate duration as a guide; current dates may vary.

Guided tours of Schwarzenberg Castle are offered regularly from Easter to October. On Sundays and public holidays, visitors can take a tour of the Upper Castle. Check the latest information before your visit, as tours may be cancelled temporarily. The two offerings therefore differ mainly in focus: the old town tour links a specified starting point with a route along the main street and through the parish church, while castle tours are offered seasonally.

Routes and historic details

The Steigerwald Way of St. James passes through Scheinfeld and by Schwarzenberg Monastery. An avenue of lime trees, planted in four rows, was laid out as early as the 17th century along the connecting route from the Upper Town Gate to Schwarzenberg Castle. The route and the avenue thus link different historical associations, without requiring you to treat them as part of a guided tour.

The architectural and pilgrimage history of Schwarzenberg Monastery can also be traced through specific dates: the monastery church was consecrated in 1735, based on plans by WĂĽrzburg master builder Balthasar Neumann. The pilgrimage to the miraculous image began in 1745, when it was moved from its original wooden chapel to the altar of the Chapel of Grace. Another historic landmark is the 46-metre-high Black Tower. It was built as a symbol of the elevation of the House of Schwarzenberg to the hereditary rank of Imperial Prince. The different dates and buildings offer a range of starting points for a culturally focused stay.

Baths and seasonal planning

The indoor and outdoor swimming pools in Scheinfeld are open to guests and visitors; both pools are open seasonally. The water temperature is at least 27°C all year round. This year-round water temperature does not mean that both pools are open throughout the year. Check the seasonal opening hours before your visit so you can plan your time for swimming accordingly.
