Bischbrunn offers a variety of trails that differ in theme and format: the Cultural Hiking Trail is a 12 km circular route, while the Planet Trail runs through the village areas of Bischbrunn and Esselbach. There are also historic traces and nature destinations in the surrounding area. You can plan your stay around whether you prefer to focus on a cultural trail, a model of the solar system, or landscape and history.

Cultural Hiking Trail and Views

The Bischbrunn Cultural Hiking Trail starts at the hiking lodge in Bischbrunn. Above the village, a viewpoint offers views stretching from Schweinfurt to the Steigerwald. In good weather, the Frankenwarte near WĂĽrzburg may also be visible. Visibility conditions are key.

The circular route provides a specific framework for a hike: it is 12 km long. The Planet Trail is laid out differently and can be explored independently on foot, by bicycle or by Segway. It runs through the village areas of Bischbrunn and Esselbach. Your choice therefore depends not only on the theme, but also on how you would like to explore the trail.

Planet Trail: Independent or Guided

The Planet Trail uses a scale of 1:959,032. The distance to Pluto is represented as approximately 6.2 km. This scale makes the size of the solar system the trail’s theme, while the Cultural Hiking Trail offers a clearly defined route length for its circular course.

Guided tours of the Planet Trail are offered from May to September when the weather is suitable. If you would like to plan a guided tour, check the details before your trip. Exploring independently is also possible; walking, cycling and Segway are listed as options.

Nature in the Municipality and Surrounding Area

Bischbrunn is located in the Spessart Nature Park. The municipality includes Geiersberg, considered the highest peak in the Spessart at 586 m. The Weihersgrund nature reserve lies along the upper Heinrichsbach, about 4 km north of Bischbrunn. Its approximate location gives you a distinct connection to nature when planning your trip, without confusing it with the circular route in the village.

The Weihersgrund is home to habitats for plant species threatened in Bavaria. These include arnica, broad-leaved marsh orchid, creeping willow and heath cudweed. If you are interested in plants and protected areas, you will find a different focus here than on the two hiking trails: the emphasis is on special species and their habitats.

Historic Traces

Torhaus Aurora once served two functions: it was an entrance to the wildlife enclosure and a customs post on the border with Mainz. A section of the historic wildlife park fence has been reconstructed at the Rainstor. These details point to different tangible aspects of history: the former use of a gatehouse and a restored section of historic fencing.

The range of themes therefore extends beyond hiking. You can distinguish between the trails by their respective focus and consider historic sites as a separate part of your trip, rather than combining all the destinations into a single circular route.

Getting There by Car

A convenient route by car from the A3 is via exit 64 at Rohrbrunn. From there, head towards Dammbach on the St 2312 to Bischbrunn. Check road conditions and route details before setting off so your travel plans are up to date.

Bischbrunn in the Wider Main-Spessart Destination

In the wider Main-Spessart destination, the landscape is shaped by vineyards, water and forests. Hiking options can also be considered on a broader regional scale: the Main Hiking Trail is around 500 km long; almost 100 km of it run through the district of Main-Spessart, connecting Karlstadt, GemĂĽnden a.Main, Lohr a.Main, Rothenfels and Marktheidenfeld.

This regional route and the 12 km circular trail in Bischbrunn represent different scales of hiking. The Main Hiking Trail connects several towns in the district, while the Cultural Hiking Trail offers a specific circular route starting at the hiking lodge in Bischbrunn. This makes it easy to distinguish between a longer regional perspective and a locally named trail.
