Neufahrn in Niederbayern can be explored through three specific travel components: rail connections, castle history with restaurant and hotel facilities, and the history trail with two route lengths. Each serves a different purpose in your planning. The railway station is a reference point for your journey, the castle combines historic architecture with restaurant and hotel facilities, and the history trail lets you choose between a full and a shorter route.

Travel by train

The railway station is on the Munich–Regensburg–Hof–Dresden railway line and is considered a transfer station for journeys towards Straubing. This is a useful reference point if you are considering travelling by train or planning to continue towards Straubing. Please check the current timetable before departure to find out which trains run on your travel date and what connections are available.

Castle history, hotel and restaurant

The castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style during the rule of the Kraus family from 1510 to 1558. Since its renovation and sale in 1988, it has been used as a hotel and restaurant. The Renaissance style places the building’s history in context, while the Kraus family’s years of rule indicate when the new building was constructed.

In the historic castle setting, the restaurant offers à la carte and set-menu options. Recurring events include medieval-style knights’ banquets and other dinner events. The events calendar changes, so if a particular evening is important to your stay, check the date in advance. The knights’ banquet is an event format, distinct from the castle’s Renaissance architecture.

History trail: full or shorter route

The interactive history trail leads to ten historic sites in Neufahrn. The full route is 10 km long; a shorter route of about 4 km omits the water tower and the burial mounds near Einkreut. The stated lengths differ by approximately 6 km. If you would like to include both of these sites, choose the full route; the shorter option omits them. This lets you weigh up the distance and the sites included together.

QR codes at the sites provide additional information on your smartphone. This digital access adds content at the historic stops and is another consideration alongside your choice of route length and sites.

Plan your trip around fixed and flexible options

For the rest of your planning, you can first settle the time-sensitive details: the timetable for your travel date and, if you would like to attend a knights’ banquet or another dinner event, the date of the event. Then choose your preferred history trail route length and which sites you would like it to include. This keeps your journey, event and route as three separate decisions; they do not have to be planned as a fixed package.
