Plants and animals of the waterway take center stage on the Fimbach; at the same time, the “Via Sancti Martini” runs through the municipality of Geisenhausen. South of the market town lies the St. Theobald pilgrimage church, while a stone labyrinth and a sculpture have been created in St. Theobald Park. These places and themes offer different points of interest: nature by the water, a cultural and pilgrimage route, and a church and landscaped park. When planning your trip, you can decide which of these highlights you would like to shape your stay.
Nature on the Fimbach
Along the stream in the Fimbach nature experience area, information boards explain the various plants and animals in and around the water. This draws attention both to life by the water and to life in the stream. The boards give the nature theme a specific focus: it is not just a general landscape setting, but plant and animal life associated with the waterway. If you are interested in nature and the life of a stream, you can take this focus into account when choosing places to visit.
The stream’s development is also part of the story: in 2014, another section of the Fimbach was restored to a more natural state. The information boards and the restoration offer two different perspectives on the nature experience area: the boards explain plants and animals, while the restoration concerns changes to a section of the waterway. This lets you explore Geisenhausen’s natural side according to whether you are more interested in living things or in how a landscape develops.
A herb trail was created in 2015 in the Fimbach nature experience area, together with the all-day class from Geisenhausen Middle School. This adds a more specific focus on plants to the other nature themes: the information boards cover various plants and animals in and around the water, while the trail focuses specifically on herbs. The all-day class’s involvement is part of the trail’s origins and gives it a concrete local connection.
Via Sancti Martini
Since autumn 2016, the European cultural and pilgrimage route “Via Sancti Martini” has run for around 17 km through the municipality of Geisenhausen. The approximate length gives you an idea of the route’s extent within the municipality. Unlike the individual nature themes on the Fimbach, the route itself is the point of interest here. For travelers interested in cultural and pilgrimage routes, it is a distinct reason to include Geisenhausen in their plans.
St. Theobald: Church and Park
The St. Theobald pilgrimage church lies south of the market town of Geisenhausen. It can be reached via a footpath that climbs to a hilltop. The ascent is also worth considering when planning your visit: if you include the church, you can allow for the uphill walk in your day’s plans.
A stone labyrinth and a sculpture have been created in St. Theobald Park. Both features add a design element: the labyrinth introduces a spatial form, while the sculpture puts a single work in the spotlight. The park complements the nature and route themes with another perspective on designed places. If you would like to combine different themes when choosing places to visit, you can include these park features in your trip plans.
