Ohlstadt lies at the foot of the 1,790-metre-high Heimgarten and on the edge of the Murnauer Moos nature reserve. Trails, water and heights
The circular trail to the Kaltwasser Falls follows the Kaltwasserlaine stream and offers views of the mountain stream and its picturesque cascades. Heimgarten is the main mountain accessible from Ohlstadt; its hut is open in summer. Nearby, the ridge hike from Heimgarten to Herzogstand crosses the 1,790-metre-high Heimgarten and the 1,731-metre-high Herzogstand. The hike is estimated to take around 1.5 hours. After the ridge hike, you can return to Ohlstadt by taking the chairlift from Herzogstand to Walchensee and then the bus via Kochel. Check the chairlift and bus operating hours before your hike.
Craftsmanship, art and horses
Hagrain Chapel was built in 1765 and is dedicated to Saint Stephen, the patron saint of whetstone makers. The grinding mill, rebuilt based on a historic model, offers another connection to local craftsmanship. You can visit on regular opening days. The studio at Kaulbach Villa now serves as a museum, presenting the subjects and working methods of the artist Friedrich August von Kaulbach. At the Schwaiganger State Stud, performances, demonstrations and stud farm shows take place throughout the year. Carriage or horse-drawn sleigh rides to the stud farm are also offered. Ohlstadt Family Pool has a combined swimming and non-swimming pool, as well as a children’s paddling pool.
