In Solla, hiking trails, the Windhoch viewpoint and the medieval Schartenkirchlein offer a variety of ways to explore. There is also a natural monument and a seasonal winter activity. This combination gives your stay several possible focuses: paths through meadows and woods, a panorama or the history of the area.
Hiking trails with different destinations
Hiking Trail No. 70 follows meadow paths and quiet woodland trails around Solla. After about 1.5 hours, it reaches the Windhoch viewpoint. From there, the view extends over Solla and the Bavarian Forest mountains as far as the Danube Valley; in good visibility, the Alpine chain can also be seen. The route therefore leads from paths through the landscape to a specific viewpoint.
Hiking Trail No. 71 leads to the swimming lake at the Ebenreuth reservoir. Swimming conditions may vary seasonally. The mushroom nature trail in Solla takes a different approach and follows existing woodland paths. This lets you choose between a viewpoint, a swimming lake as a destination, and a trail about mushrooms.
Natural monument and Schartenkirchlein
The Wackelstein is 2 km southeast of Solla and is a natural monument. Schartenkirchlein is about 750 metres southwest of Solla, on a hill 693 metres high. The medieval church is associated with the former fortified site of the Edlen von Scharten. Their castle once stood here; the little church is said to have been its castle chapel.
The interior also makes this a destination in its own right for anyone interested in culture: the church contains a mural depicting Saint Michael fighting the dragon. The complex also includes a small woodland cemetery. The location, building history and mural can all be considered together, while the natural monument and church cover different themes: here, a protected natural feature and a historic site appeal to different interests.
Winter and event venue
The Scharten-Lift in Solla is classified as an easy lift. Its operation depends on snow conditions. If winter is the focus of your trip, this condition is essential for planning. Thurmansbang-Solla/Loh is also the current venue for the Elefantentreffen.
In the wider destination of Thurmansbang
The wider destination of Thurmansbang also offers its own hiking options. The “Diebstein” hiking trail (No. 67) starts at the Thurmansbang tourist information office and continues along Puchberger Straße, through Finkenthal and past the Buchwiesweiher pond below Diebstein, towards Bründlkapelle and back to Thurmansbang. It is about 4.5 km long. For Trail No. 70 in Solla, by contrast, the time to the Windhoch viewpoint is given: about 1.5 hours. This provides an approximate trail distance and an approximate time to a destination for comparison, each in a different place.
The municipality of Thurmansbang also has ten recommended terrain health trails of varying difficulty. The scale ranges from 1 for the easiest trail to 10 for the most demanding. Fishing is possible in Thurmansbang at Buchwiesweiher, Ebenreuther See and Dreiburgensee; check permits and conditions locally.
The spa gardens with climate pavilion next to the church in Thurmansbang offer a sheltered place for fresh-air reclining therapy, protected from wind and rain. The grounds also include a sunbathing lawn for controlled sunbathing (heliotherapy). These activities are part of the wider destination of Thurmansbang and complement the overview of Solla without treating the two places or their offerings as the same.
