Heroldsbach brings together very different reasons to visit: cultural history, prayer and quiet reflection, and Schloss Thurn Adventure Park. When planning a stay, it helps to decide early what you want to focus on. The Cultural and Historical Trail and the place of prayer offer a different experience from the adventure park, whose winter closure is important to bear in mind when planning.

Cultural history and place of prayer

The Cultural and Historical Trail in Heroldsbach opened on 1 May 2007 to mark the town’s 1,000th anniversary. A brochure explaining the 27 stops is available to download. The occasion for the opening and the stops give the trail a specific cultural and historical context. If you would like to include local history in your stay, you can learn about the trail through the brochure and explore its individual stops.

The Heroldsbach place of prayer includes a chapel, a pilgrims’ hostel and sites of grace, and welcomes visitors for prayer, reflection and quiet. Alongside the cultural and historical trail, it offers a spiritual focus for a visit. In the early years of the Heroldsbach apparitions, between 50,000 and 70,000 pilgrims came to the “Holy Mountain” on some major feast days. This figure refers to the early years and those major feast days; it illustrates the scale of pilgrimages at the time.

Schloss Thurn Adventure Park

Schloss Thurn Adventure Park offers more than 50 rides and attractions. The park includes, among other things, a Western show, a gondola lift, a large playground, many animal species, a VR roller coaster and a free-fall tower.

More than 300 bats have lived in the roof of Schloss Thurn for many years. This adds a natural-history aspect to the rides and shows.

Schloss Thurn Adventure Park is closed in winter. Check the operator’s opening days before your trip to make sure a visit to the park fits your travel dates. Schloss Thurn is accessible via the A73 and by public transport. If you are travelling by public transport, it is advisable to check your specific connection before setting out.

More perspectives on the Forchheim destination

In the wider Forchheim destination, the Cultural Experience Franconian Switzerland hiking trail connects pioneering cultural projects across more than 280 km in the district of Forchheim. Compared with the Heroldsbach Cultural and Historical Trail, whose brochure explains 27 stops, it offers a regional perspective. When choosing cultural trails, you can therefore distinguish between a route focused on a specific place and a wide-ranging route that connects cultural projects.

Schloss Wiesenthau is also in the Forchheim destination. It is privately owned, used as a restaurant and can be visited by prior arrangement. Confirm the arrangements before your visit. In the wider Forchheim destination, the ruins of Neideck and the Neideck Archaeological Park are also accessible at any time; please observe the on-site guidance on protecting the sites.
