Neuching offers two distinct highlights for planning a trip: the Christkindlmarkt in December and Lüßer Weiher as a destination by the water. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether a seasonal event or time for a walk should shape your stay. The wider Erding destination also has its own museums, city attractions and routes.

Christkindlmarkt and Christmas play

For several years, Neuching has held a Christkindlmarkt in December, featuring music, food and arts and crafts. The municipality now describes the market as a two-day event. If you are planning your visit around it, check the specific date in advance. This lets you plan the market as a standalone event without assuming there will be any additional programme.

At the Christkindlmarkt in Oberneuching, the Neichinger Brettlhupfa perform a Christmas play every two years. This biennial schedule is important when planning if the performance is the main reason for your visit: in addition to the December date, you will need to consider the play’s schedule.

Lüßer Weiher: sunbathing lawn and walk

The municipal bathing pond, Lüßer Weiher, was given a new sunbathing lawn during renovation work in spring 2012. Mown meadow paths and benches make it possible to walk around the lake. This means there are different ways to enjoy the pond: take a break on the sunbathing lawn or walk along the paths. If you are planning to walk the route, it is worth checking the current condition of the paths.

In the wider Erding destination: museums, city and routes

The Erding Farmhouse Museum comprises 15 historic buildings relocated there from the Erding district. It depicts the historic farming practices and way of life of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Bringing together several buildings around this historical theme makes the museum a standalone cultural destination within the wider Erding destination.

Another architectural highlight is Franz Xaver Stahl’s former home and studio. The Biedermeier house dates from around 1840 and is furnished with historical furniture. The former studio has been preserved unchanged since his death. The Erding area therefore offers contrasting perspectives: the relocated historic buildings of the farmhouse museum and a single historic home and workplace.

Guided tours in Erding give residents and tourists an insight into the history of the city and its buildings. A guided tour of the town tower takes visitors up one of the oldest buildings in the city. After 163 steps, you reach a height of 35 metres, with views from there across Erding and the surrounding area as far as Munich and, in foehn conditions, the Alpine panorama. The tower thus combines the historical perspective of the tours with far-reaching views.

Erding also offers a range of options for walks and hikes of varying lengths. The hiking trails are between 5.9 and 15 kilometres long, with walking times ranging from one and a half to five hours. The themed trails take around an hour and lead through the old town and city districts or in the footsteps of artists. In addition, there are more than 28 varied and well-signposted cycle routes in the Erding district.

For a culinary stop, the farmers’ market is located on the grounds of the Erding Farmhouse Museum. It is open on Fridays from 12:00 to 16:30, with farmers from the Erding district offering regional and seasonal goods and food. As market hours may change, check the date before your visit.
