Karlsfeld can be explored from different perspectives: Karlsfelder See is used year-round, while Waldschwaigsee draws swimmers every summer. There is also a protected landscape feature, local history at the local history museum, and recurring festivals.
Ponds, lake and paths
Eichinger Weiher, also known as Eichinger See, is a protected landscape feature between central Karlsfeld and the Karlsfeld-West area. It is a landmark in its own right and should not be confused with Karlsfelder See. The Karlsfelder See recreation area lies directly beside the built-up area of Karlsfeld-Nord, covers 58.2 hectares and is in the district of Dachau.
A barrier-free, paved circular walking route goes all the way around Karlsfelder See. It gives your walk a clear route. The lake is also used year-round for walking, jogging, cycling and recreation. The circular route and these other activities make the lake a specific destination for a range of activities throughout the year.
Seasons and festival dates
Waldschwaigsee lies in the northwestern part of the municipality of Karlsfeld and draws swimmers every summer. Compared with Karlsfelder See, which is used year-round, the reason to visit here is more seasonal: swimming takes center stage in summer, while Karlsfelder See is used throughout the year. So if you choose your stay based on the season, these two lakes offer different experiences.
The Karlsfeld-Nord Settlers' Association has held the Settlers' and Lake Festival annually since 1957. The family-friendly Karlsfelder Siedlerfest takes place for ten days in early July at the Karlsfelder lido and recreation grounds. The Karlsfelder Siedlerfest includes a Fischerstechen (jousting on the water) on Karlsfelder See, organized by the local young men's association. If you want to visit during the festival, early July is the clearly defined time to go; this makes it different from planning a stay around the summer season in general.
Local history and sport
The local history museum in the Old Town Hall displays exhibits from Karlsfeld's 200-year history and provides information about the origins, expulsion and integration of many Karlsfeld residents. Alongside water and outdoor activities, local history and social experiences are also in focus. Before your visit, check whether the local history museum is open on the first and third Sunday of the month from 2 to 5 pm.
The municipality of Karlsfeld's sports park contains municipal sports facilities as well as facilities belonging to TSV Eintracht Karlsfeld e. V. These facilities offer another aspect of the town, distinct from its bodies of water and historical attractions.
In the wider destination of Dachau
In the city of Dachau, the historic old town is protected as an architectural ensemble and invites visitors to stroll and linger. The Dachau District Museum displays exhibits on three floors covering settlement patterns, the town's history, guild and market rights, crafts and trade, everyday life, festival customs and religious folk traditions. Dachau Palace offers a different perspective: it was once a popular summer residence of the Wittelsbach family. The climb is rewarded with views across the Munich gravel plain, the Bavarian capital of Munich and all the way to the Alps.
